Can you burn MP3s to a DVD disk and paly them on the audio system

Hi All,

New Member and first proper post (so excuse the ignorance!) :

Will be placing my order for 2.2EX in a couple of weeks, and was wondering; Given that the SatNav has a DVD drive, can you burn MP3s to a DVD and play them through the Audio system (obviously not by putting the DVD in the CD player! - I'm not that stupid!) as a DL DVD would hold almost all of my music collection!

Cheers

Dylan

It was a missed opportunity from Honda really they shoulkd have fitted a HU that reads DVDs really, especially as it's such a pig to change.

It seems odd to me to have two optical drives in the car. It should really be all built in together which would mean yes, you should be able to play DVDs full of mp3 files in the car. Alas not.

but if you only had one drive, you couldn't listen to MP3s and have the sat nav telling you where to go at the same time....

Though I agree, the in built CD drive should be an inbuilt DVD drive.
But then, burning more than about 6 or 7 CDs worth of MP3s to a CD means it takes ages to load as it is...

These days I would have thought that new cars like that would have hard drives in them and could store all the systems satnav and music.

Actually with the ludicrously cheap price of flash memory today I would have thought that 8Gb could be fitted for next to nothing and the DVD uploaded to memory so that the DVD could be removed!

I agree, but this will all add cost and you have got to rememeber that the Civic is just a C segment car. The sort of features we are talking about are avalible in Honda's/Acura's, but are in larger, more expensive models (The Legend/Acura RL and 2008 US Accord have DVD audio).

Mind you it would be nice for Honda to offer more Audio upgrade options like other manufacturers do

Bog makes a good point, ultimately it is a small family hatch, not a RR Phantom.

If i was desinging the system i'd have it so that you only needed to pop the dvd in the sat nat to download all the maps to a small harddrive or built in flash memory. Then it would free up the drive for other things such as playing music etc.

Of course all that would add cost and at the end of the day like czechplastik said its only a small hatch really.
