Other Cassette player???

Hi Guys,

Anyone any ideas on how I could add a Tape/Cassette player to my new Civic??, I really think I'm gonna miss it as I play tapes fairly regularly on long journeys. The dealer says no one wants them anymore and I should have an Ipod lead instead, bit of a problem I DON'T own an Ipod!!!!

The cost of trying to source a tape player, is probably more expensive than buying an iPod nowadays!

(If its any consolation, Honda can provide a tape player add-on to the Honda Accord - but it was stupidly expensive, as economies of scale don't really play a part with tape players any more).

Just use CDs instead, if you put MP3s on you can get the equivalent of 11 odd albums on one. I burnt a CD last week with all Genesis albums from 1970 to 1982 onto 1 CD much much easier.

Tapes are old tech and wear out time to bin em mate

Daft, because everything "story based" or ex-radio based is on a Tape,

Cylon2007, my tapes arn't music, they're things like Biggles and Round the horne etc. etc. and some of the early stuff is not to be found on CD.

You could rip the tapes to CD (or MP3) on your computer then play them that way!

There is software available (some of it free - I think) you just plug the output of a tape player into the microphone socket on your computer and play it in.

I don't have the name of the software on me - I'll look it up tohight and let you know!

If you rip them all to digital files.... they'll last much longer once the tapes have died and worn out.

that's the way to do it as tapes do wear out, once you've ripped them to MP3 you can safely put the tapes away for safe keeping. Seriously it's worth th initial aggro to go to CD.

You could also add a connects2 to your head unit and then plug a tape walkman into it.

Thanks you lot, so I'm guessing Honda don't do an adaptor for my 'wax cylinders' or 38's either

I'll see if I can do it, do you just copy the files direct ot a CD (as you would to transfer the files between comp) or do you have to burn them as MP3 CD's in a specific program????

Cylon is right, your best bet is to get a connects2 and plug a cassette player into it or an MP3 player at a later date - that will save you faffing about copying tapes to CD, the ripping to MP3 etc.

If I was you, I would ditch the CD changer (and use the money to get the dealer to fit the connects2 if you don't fancy it yourself). As many have said before, rip your CD's to MP3 and the make an MP3 disk - much cheaper than the CD Changer.

First job is to hook up your Hi-Fi to your PC:

Then you will need a CD burner (which most PC's have now anyway) and a program like Nero to burn the music files to CD.

I downloaded a 14 day free trial of software to convert cassettes to CD.
I managed to convert about 50, within the 14 days and was very simple to do.
Can't remember the name of the software company (which is useful ennit ), but type in- Cassette to CD and it will pop up.
Happy that spending an hour or so each evening, had saved me purchasing the software, they then went and gave me an additional 14 day trial.

The other option is to use a portable cassette player and plug it into one of those FM transmitter jobbies you can buy everywhere these days. That will require no wiring, no expensive dealer options and means you can just tune the radio to a specific frequency and listen. As a lot of your stuff is spoken word, I guess you are not looking for 'cd' quality anyway.

Quite, I like to listen to "spoken word" quite a bit, better than music on long journeys, and was hoping that the car would come with a cp, seeing as my fathers Range Rover and my mothers BMW both did as standard and they are both virtually new (the cars not my parents), also all the other cars I looked at came with them!

I'll have a go with the transmitter, my mothers got one for her Ipod and it seems to work ok.

Wonderful, but does that mean I can't have it with Sat-Nav or Honda won't fit it with Sat-Nav??
