Technical HTC DESIRE HD won't register

Hi

I am trying to get my HTC desire HD to play music via the adapter in the arm rest well but it just won't register.

I have an IPOD which does the job but its only 8gb and it would be nice to cut down the gadgets into the car.

Any ideas please?

What cable are you using?

There's plenty info if you Google it. Looks like it's not as simple as pluging the charge cable in. Talk of splicing wires, etc..
