With £1200 to spend what spec car audio system would you go for with the one restriction being the head unit cant be changed (keeping it cos of satnav). Looking for speaker/Amp/Bass reccomendations pls

So far from Pottsy with thanks:

4 higher quality 6.5" component speakers (£270), a 5 channel amp (£250), 2 LOCs (£50), a slim subwoofer (£140) and cabling/dynamat/connectors (£80). Total £790 DIY.
Fitting could be £500+, but the job on the Civic is not hard, it just takes a bit of time. A keen amateur could do a nice neat job in a lazy day.

Subjectively, using total guesswork and a few assumptions mixed with quite a few years of experience, mistakes and successes; if the OEM sound quality is 4/10, option 1 would be 6/10 and option 2 7.5/10. To get any better you need to dump the HU and replace with something nice (with proper time EQ) and build proper enclosures for the speakers.

This whole subject is so varied and there are so many opinions, this is just my take, so anyone else feel free to disagree and lob their own ideas in!

Ok a question:

1- would there be a big drain on the battery? I just called caraudiosecurity and they said best to pay for another battery to be installed in the boot??? Is this a scam or for real?

No scam. The boot is probably the easiest place to fit a second battery.

It's quite common for other cars to relocate the battery to the boot to allow extra space for air filters, turbos, etc.

Wouldn't have thought that the drain would be that much though. If you have a diesel it would be negligible.

Should get a decent sound with the rest of the set up. I would have gone for Kappas if my budget (her indoors) had allowed. The plain old References do make a difference though.

I'd up the estimate for the ancillaries if I were you though. £80 seems a bit cheap for speaker rings, cabling, connectors, and Dynamating the doors.

A scam.
You won't be able to push more than 400W RMS on your setup anyway, and for that there is no need for additional battery.

.. unless you like to listen a lot loud music when car is turned off.
