Very very nice, Rizlam... I just wish there was a fascia (even single DIN) which could accommodate the Honda SatNav, for which I have only praise... -sigh-

I'd be interested in seeing a pic when the dispay is 'flipped down'.

As fancy/cool as it looks I'm still personally unconvinced about the usefulness of a DVD player in a car, especially in that position. Although it's probably just me

It's a double-din HU - it only arches down to allow access to the slot drive, it's not a flip-out single Din.

I enquired at my local Honda dealer with regards to the factory fit version of this.

He could only give me a price for the DVD maps disc @ about 125 + Vat and was supposed to call back with further details but didn't.

Something very similar appears in the Type S brochure, so I believe Honda do an option, not sure if it is dealer fit or factory - suspect its expensive though.

You don't want to know how much cost and effort this was, buy my god it looks fantastic and works brilliantly.

So, to answer your questions:

1. My car is a Type S GT and not only are all the heater controls still working, so is the dual heater control also.
2. The steering wheel controls all work, including the channel changing and holding down controls to skip whole albums in MP3 mode
3. It's a Kenwood flip down head unit with MP3, DVD, Video CD, DAB* (see later), aux video, tuner and the bluetooth head unit
4. I'm using the Kenwood bluetooth hands free as the Honda one is an utter POS
5. The LCD still works but naturally the radio station names or track names do not appear (but nothing spurious appears either)
6. I have also got an external DAB receiver BUT there is no obvious place for the aerial. The small area of metal roof is full of mechanisms that make fitting a DAB aerial there impossible and the quality of the glass mounted and internal window aerials is pants.
7. It looks and sounds amazing.

There you go. The company who did all the work couldn't believe how tricky this was but the quality of their effort is outstanding. They're called Huets and I can't imagine many other companies would be able to do what they did - and I'll go into detail if you are curious.

Whew!

Hello!
Great job.
I'll try to do it too.

There are:
1. Civic Type R w/ radio, w/ dual heater, w/o Navi
2. Kenwood products: HU, GPS reciever, bluetooth, rear camera.
3. Car wiring diagram and head units(factory and Kenwood)/LCD/heater connectors pinout.

But...

I don't know how new electrical connection should be made..
I'm studying docs but cannot match old and new wires/connectors

You did it! Thanks. Now I know that it's possible.
Can you help me?
Could I have wiring diagram of your Kenwood/LCD/Heater connections?
There is no problem to connect HU to the car.
But how LCD should be connected to heater control w/o factory radio?

Thank you.

Andrey,

They have to leave the original HU in the car, hidden but all connected up. Just disconnect the speakers from the old HU and connect them to the new HU.

Hi there

You have to keep the factory radio. We moved it to the boot and extended all the controls back to the front of the car. It was a massive job and very tricky too - but good luck!

Hi and thanks for your advices.

There is my solution, where factory HU was removed.

I bought display assy for car version w/o factory radio (39720-SMT-G01 Display assy., (NO AUDIO), ~350 Euros).
This assy has different pinout and is connected directly to AC control.
It does not show radio info but has clock setup buttons.

The factory HU was removed.
Harness was made by myself (thank my Honda dealer for wiring diagrams)

I installed Kenwood in my car two day ago.

It works!

Dealer checked my work and told me that warranty is not broken!
Next Monday dealer will install navi block, rear camera and handsfree.

Unfortunately, I didn't find Kenwood remote control wire/electric diagram and cannot make adapter for wheel control and didn't find online shop where this adapter is available

The result:

Hand-made harness:

New display pinout and my reconnect diagram (sorry for Russian, I can translate if you need):

If you have any questions - welcome! I'll try answer and help.

Thanks.
