1. Is a Dice box the same as a Denison Ice box?
2. Does the Connects2 solution not charge the ipod? It suggested on the connects2 site that it does.
3. The connects2 solution is a fair bit cheaper, is it worth paying the extra for the Denison?
1. No
2. As far a know the Connects2 does not charge the iPod
3. No buy A Dice box especialy if you have SatNav as the splitter cable comes with it which costs about £90 from Honda while a Dice from the US cost me £98.

It's my understanding that the std connects2 box (VHOX001) doesn't charge the iPod - sound comes from the headphone out jack, not the dock port - but look in the ICE FAQ for more details of what it does.

Update - installed my connects2 at the w/e - not my idea of recreation, a lot of swearing and head scratching was required but I got there in the end (the guides in the Wiki were invaluable)!

Unfortunately I can confirm that the connects2 box that In Car express told me would be compatible and would cahrge my iPod didn't work... quelle surprise ! I'll update the Wiki with my findings for future reference - time to chase them for a refund...

The iPod cable actually came with a different (non-RCA) plug on the end and a different connects2 unit (that wa a surprise, should have looked more closely at the picture!). Unfortunately this doesn't look like it is specced to ape the CD changer as per the VHOX001 .

I will test it anyway, but I suspect I'll end up with the standard setup (output out of iPods headphone socket) with a separate car charger* - boooo...

Now all I have to do is decide whether to install it before I go on holiday on Sunday - I don't want to travel 500+ miles with the dash hanging off cos I couldn't clip it all back!

* - I'm hoping In car express will give me a refund for the iPod lead if this happens.

God knows why you lot keep faffing about with these connects2 boxes. The DICE kits do everything you need!

Installation of any iPod adapter is tricky, but it's good to know it's gonna work after all that hard graft!

DICE kits are available in the uk from Daltec AI Ltd - Suppliers of car kits and in-car accessories

4Gb iPod Nano's are available from ME! Just £55 each! iPod Nano's 4Gb Silver (current model) for sale @ £55 each

Maybe you're right, but:

a) a Dice kit is ~3x times the price of the std connects2 (though to be fair I can't see how the site you've linked is doing them for), and;
b) it appears I was wrong when I posted this...

..as (according to In Car Express) if I rig up the two connects2 boxes in series I will get a setup that charges my iPod and allows me to play music from the dock port simultaneously, just like the DICE does . Yes it's less elegant with two boxes, but there's plenty of room for them in my car and the cumulative cost is only ~£60.

Would I buy a DICE if I'd known this originally? Maybe, but now I've got both connets2 boxes I might as well fit them. I'll update this thread next week once it's in and tested...

Dice Box questions...

Hi,
can anybody tell me if the Dice Box solution from the US works with the European Civic models? And does anybody have the "Silverline" Edition which is supposed to be able to show title, etc. in the display?
Thx!

The DICE box costs about £70 from Daltec AI Ltd - Suppliers of car kits and in-car accessories who are in the UK, order it today, you'll have it tomorrow. It charges your iPod and allows you to play from it at the same time.... I don't understand why devices that don't do both are even on the market

The dice connects via the bus connector on the bottom of the iPod, and therefore allows you to use the car stereo controls to control the iPod (great for skipping tracks when on shuffle). If you can't do this, surely it's as distracting/dangerous/illegal as using a mobile phone whilst driving.

Also the DICE box has an AUX input, to allow you to connect a DVD player, other MP3 player or SATNAV to your car stereo. Plus, you can switch the controls on the iPod off/on via a DIP switch on the DICE, although I'm not sure why you'd want to switch them off (but my girlfriend's ALPINE car stereo doesn't allow you to use the iPod's own controls, which kinda sucks).
