I upgraded in stages until I was happy with the sound.

Stage 1 Infinity Front Speakers + Resistor L Pad
Mod - install Infinity front speakers - Civinfo Wiki
Stage 2 Dynamat in doors around speakers
How To Dramatically improve speaker sound quality for £40 (Dynamat)
Stage 3 Rear speakers replaced with coaxials + dynamat.
Rear Speakers - Replacement with Coaxials (3 Door)
I have stopped at stage 3 as the sound quality is excellent and total cost is only @ £150.

Installing subs and amps gets more time consuming and expensive.
Stage 4 for me would probably be the small pioneer sub under the rear seats.

There are some amazing ICE set ups on this site if you want to get serious - see FWHs link.

I am very happy with the sound quality. Even at motorway speeds the stereo copes well, which is very impressive as the CTR has a lot road and engine background noise at these speeds.

However I did have problems to start with. The infinitys had far too much treble at first. Needing time to bed in may have caused this, or it could have been due to the door mounting not being very good (now improved with dynamat extreme). The L Pad resistor is also a cheap and easy mod to reduce the treble.

Other manufacturer quality speakers may possibly bed in quicker than the infinitys. But you would struggle to get anything better than the infinitys for the price - they are sold at a fraction of retail price on e-bay.

I have not felt the need to install the mini sub, as the bass from the infinity speakers seems fine now. The mini sub will be the next upgrade for me eventually.

I am no car ICE expert, but I am fussy about getting a reasonable sound. For @ £150 it does give a big improvement over standard.

Let us know how you get on with your upgrade.........

A quick question as i am thinking of doing the same, this SOT 908 which you talk about how does it work?!

Also from that diagram it looks like the split between the 2 rear speakers is on one side of the car, does this mean you will only have to run speaker cables from one side to the sub even tho its taking them from both?
