My point was that for Baillieswells to suggest that an 0845 number was more expensive than the 01753 number was incorrect.

Obviously if you have a plan that gives free calls to 01XXX numbers then that is even better. What plan is that? I would like to look into having free calls too! (Bet there is a catch somewhere - always is...)

My phone plan gives me free calls 24/7 on all STD numbers. So I can for example phone someone in Orkney at mid-day and talk for an hour for nothing. An 0845 (3p/min) or 0870 (10p/min) call even if it was in the next village would cost me a fortune for an hours conversation.

Anthony.
The catch is usually that you pay a fixed sum each month. It's hard to find a phone service provider that doesn't give this as standard, or at least as an option (BT, Carphone Warehouse etc. all do it). I use Call 18866, which charges a flat 5p per call (I must rethink that, it used to be 2p per call. It all depends on the number and length of the calls you make.

OFCOM are well aware of the excessive charging for 0845 and 0870 numbers. You will find details of their investigations on their website somewhere.

Well, Firstly apologies for taking this off thread! My Final comment.. The Plan I have is with onetel (Onetel.net). I believe carphone have taken them over now. I get up to 2MB broadband (no limit), pop3 email, Line rental (50p off bt price), free calls 24/7 (ring off before 1 hour & dial back though, else charged) for a total of £40 per month. Pay £43 to include caller display, ring back & call waiting. When you consider it includes internet and line rental etc it is a good price. Fun when BT phone up to try and get me back, I tell them the plan and they never ring back!

Sorry again for diverting the convo..

Antnoy.
This would be the Honda Happiness plan that was plugged heavily in the brochure last year with no mention of any exclusions, but turned out not to be available for diesels when I asked to pay for it at the time I collected the car?

OK, I should perhaps have read the almost illegible, badly photocopied price list in detail. If I had, then I would also have picked up that Honda also don't provide spare wheels any more - at least that was sorted in the end, but thanks to the dealer, not Honda.

So, HH is now available for diesels. Great, but why wasn't it available from day 1 for we unpaid Honda development staff!

Angry

I have just attempted to buy the 5yr Service pack from my local dealer for the 4th time and failed again.

1) Originally I tried to get it thrown in free, but they were having none of it, saying that it actually costs them money? Fair enough if this is true.
2) Then just pre-delivery (June 07) tried again. Service manager stated it had to be bought at the time of car purchase/delivery. I knew this was rubbish, but said nothing. But they said they would sort out, for when I came in to pick it up, which they didn't & I forgot about it.
3) Kept meaning to try again, but Oct 07 rec'd a letter supposedly from my local dealer, stating I can now buy it. After a few days I popped into the dealers with the letter & saw the Service manager. They agreed I was eligible, but they couldn't do it now, as the Honda website was down, so they couldn't print any paperwork. I gave them my tel.no., for them to contact me on the Monday for my creditcard details. Never heard anything
4) 2 weeks later (today) went to the dealer & explained that I'd been in 2 weeks previous about the service pack, but knowone had contacted me. Apparently only the Service manager can sort this, but he was out at the time. They then said:
-- a) That the dealers didn't really know anything about the letters and the signature on the bottom was electronic (false).
-- b) That alot of customers with Jazz's were phoning, whom also rec'd the letter, who according to my dealer were ineligible.
-- c) That the price stated in the letter (£500) was applicable to the 1.4 model & would increase for the other engines/specification.
-- d) As I will only be doing low mileage (7000ish/yr), that the major 2nd service would be put back to the 3rd year?

What a bunch of *#-#*-

Anyway to ensure that my facts are right, can the following be confirmed:
1) £500 for 5 yrs
2) The same regardless of petrol model
3) Can be taken out up to 8 months after purchase
4) No other costs are involved, except wear & tear, i.e. brakes, etc...

Hi thefireflies,

Welcome to the wonderful world of Honda.

When I tried, it was clearly described as an option in their brochure, with no exceptions whatever listed. However, when I tried to buy it when I collected the car, it suddenly became unavailable because I had bought a diesel.

I have the 2.2 diesel and obtained the Honda Happiness deal for £850.00 when I purchased the car in June 2007.

(Actually I got it for nothing as it was part of the wrangling process that seems an essential part of buying a motor car these days, but nevertheless, the price was £850.00.)

Anthony.

Honda Happiness Fixed price servicing is only available to retail customers buying either a new or ex-demonstrator that is less that 8 months old and has covered less that 8000 miles. It is £500 for petrol cars and £850 for diesels.

More information here - Click on Honda Happiness, then choose either the fixed price repairs of the fixed price service offer

- the fixed price service offer only includes those items stated in the manufactures schedules service. All other adjustments or parts are paid for by the owners.

Hope that helps ....

Hi thefireflies - in answer to the above:
1) Yes, for petrol models
2) It's £850 for diesel models
3) Yes, up to 8 months - but not more then 8000 miles
4) Cost covers all parts and labour normally found in the service schedule. No brakes etc

Sorry to learn of the problems you've had. The 5yr service deal is actually sold by Honda UK and is not dealer specific. I would suggest you should either contact Honda directly or go to another dealership. The web link on my previous post will give you more info.

I have also been looking into this, and it does seem like a good deal. You can take it out any time between 8,000 miles or 8 months of owning the new car, which ever comes first.

It does nt cover addition items like brakes, wiper blades, etc. But I have been told that you can get a set of front pads on the CTR for £90 instead of £120 fitted with this scheme.

So you basically get a discount on any addition parts that are needed too! I will take this out in a few months time when I have the extra money!

If you're keeping the car for four or five years and you can afford the additional outlay on top of the price of a new or ex demonstrator car then it is a no brainer.

Ive been offered 3 Years servicing from my dealer for £399
Any Honda, any age.
Dealers are beginning to realise that unless they offer these deals, then customers are going to take the independent route

Following on from my previous message almost 3 weeks ago, out of the blue yesterday I got a call from my local dealer, stating they've been having 'very bad administration problems' and that's why they didn't get back to me on the monday!!! I'm still eligible though, which is one thing.

How bad can the administration problem be, not even to phone me when they said they would, just to explain the situation.

They're lucky I havn't gone elsewhere by now.

Most of these dealers have administration problems, Alan Day at Enfield gave me a wrong reg number, lost my tax disk and then never bothered calling me to see how the car was going. They also lost the keys to the car I part exchanged, and ask me if I had given the keys to them, which I had!

They also called me about the Happiness scheme, and told me that they only had 5 leaflets left with additional information on this scheme, I only need one! LOL I mean who are these leaflets for anyhow, am I not a customer???

I have now decided to buy the scheme at Honda Hatifield. After speaking to them they sent me a break down of each servicing cost for 5 years, and were very helpful. They also got a good review on Wiki.

I fianlly managed to get the 5yr service plan, at my 5th attempt.

The saving I'll make over the 5 years doesn't appear to be as much as I expected, at £135, but a saving is a saving however you look at it. Perhaps my lowish mileage, 2.2k in 5 months, has affected this.

Apparently the 'very big administration problems' they've been having for 5 weeks, were due to the software/internet connection to the Honda Happiness database. This still doesn't explain the local dealers lack of service in taking 5 weeks to ring me back.
