Space Saver Wheel

Dear John Pease,

I'm new here and I'm interested in the space saver spare wheel for the 1.8SE Civic (16" wheel - not sure if they're identical). Could you please contact me with a price and whether this item will need to be fitted into my car or if I can do this myself. Some posts on here seem a little confusing as I understand the wheel arrives as two parts and needs assembly at the dealership and may also need fitting into the vehicle...

I could collect from you as I frequently find myself being ordered to drive to Freeport Shopping Mall and you're not far from there are you?

I look forward to hearing from you when you have the time. Thanks

Andrew S.

Space Saver Tyre Price

£90.00 if you purchase it here, saving you a tenner on the std retail price, we'll assemble it too in that price.

Just call Richard 01376 334664 and order, then just call us when you want to collect it: 01376 348731. Just mention to Richard that you got the price from me on here and he will give you the discount.

Look forward to hearing from you.

Regards

Andy

Been deliberating on buying the spare for a few months now, but have just gone ahead. Speaking to the parts guy at my local dealer, Ryland Cardiff. He says that the foam repair kit is ok but that it is so messy and sticky that tyre depots will not repair the tyre as it takes so long to clean it out. They will simply discard the tyre and you will have to but a new one, £60-70 maybe. Also to replace the foam kit will cost £60 as you can only use it once. The cost of the spare wheel is £100 so it is well worth buying it even if you only use it once.
But beware some cars are not supplied with jacks and wheel braces as the foam kit means that wheels do not need to be taken off.

Oh really when I pointed out to HUK that I have been told this by several tyre repair centres and the Honda manual says it can be repaired STEVE DYER from HUK confirmed the tyre can be repaired if it is a certain type of puncture, what type would that be then I wonder? Maybe the type where you take the tyre off get a lift to the nearest repair centre, get it fixed, get a lift back to the car and fix it back on the car.

So if Honda bodyshops say they cant repair the tyres STEVE DYER needs some training on their products.

Exactly my point, the manual is wrong and STEVE DYER simply doesnt have a clue what he is talking about so he shouldnt be Manager of Customer Relations.

I was under the impression tyre repair centres don't tend to repair tyres where foam has been used. By the way if you do go for the spare wheel option, is this fitted in the lower storage area of the boot or underneath the car?

Although the wheel goes in the storage area, there is still some room around the wheel and you should get a net for the boot just to hold any loose items that were in the storage area.

I bet once you've driven away from the tyre depot they will be cleaning the inside of the tyre, fixing it and putting up for sale as a part warn coz "they can be fixed", but hey if your not firm enough they make extra money

I managed to pick up an unused spare wheel on ebay for £50 it comes with the net (it has 4 hooks on so I assume it is to clip to the 4 eyes in the boot, 2 at the erar ans 2 at the sides) it also came with a large folded up plastic ( I assume this is to put the wheel you've taken off in) and a big shaped washer and bolt thing to screw it down to the bottom of the boot.

Did I get everyhting? I was wondering if there should be something under the wheel as it doesn't quite fit flat, saying that it's fine apart form being a truly horrid yellow.

I have to say I am much happier now I have even though I really don't like spacesavers they have to be better than the silly repair kit idea.

Sound's like you have everything, all you have to do is cut a cross section in the carpet in the boot were the thread for the bolt is (You will have to take a plastic screw out first) the silver disc then sits in the centre of the wheel and the bolt goes through that.

You got a bargian there mate well done.

Unfortunately you will have to put up with the colour!!!

Spacers

There should have been three sponge type spacers which stick to the carpet under the spacesaver, two thick, one thin, allows the spacesaver to sit flat. All the best.

Ta, I thought it may be something along those lines, it does fit anyway it just isn't level. I'll see if I can arrange something.
