Test Drive

I'm really keen on buying a new Type S GT, probably in black, but local Honda dealer won't let me take it for a very long test drive. He only wants to go for a 15 min spin round the block.

What's your policy on test drives? I'm not keen on spending the best part of £20k on a car without taking it for a proper drive.

I'm not too far from Braintree....

if he wont let you take it for longer then goto another dealer. You are about to spend some serious amount of money and should be able to have at least a minimum of a hour. Infact on there official website it states you can have a 2 hour test drive. I got an hours test drive when i bought mine but could have had another one if wanted to buy my mind was made up.

Im sure they will back down if you say you are going to another dealer.

Can't speak highly enough of August Motors in Salisbury. Talked about trying a Civic at 11am, arranged a test drive for 1230, after a few bits of paperwork gave me the keys for the courtesy car and told me it had to be back by 5! Bought the car at about 2:30.... That's the way to do it, any dealer who insists on short and accompanied test drives is not living in the real world.

Then when delivery of my new car was delayed - as much down to my work patterns as Honda - the loaned me a car (think it was the same courtesy car) for 10 days.

So, how does it compare to the x? (15 seconds down the road)
So, how does it feel? (25 seconds down the road)
There's not much I can say really, the car's so good it just sells itself.
It's great on a run.
It's got some go in it, hasn't it?

Etc

Talking Test Drive

Anybody else wish to take us up on our 12 Hour test drive?

For us it is proving fantastic, we win other dealers suffer.

The smallest Honda dealer in the UK Triumphs again.

I will take you up on the 12hr test drive in the coming months as I am due a new Motability car. I have driven the new civic but am having trouble getting used to the seats. Once I have got comfy in the car I will be able to order one early next year.

My local dealer, Northwood Honda, let me have their demonstrator 2.2 i-CDTi model for 2 days. I picked it up last Saturday about 10:30am and dropped it back off on Monday about the same time.

Can't ask for better than that. Great garage my one

Talking Dealer Nervousness.

I really understand why dealers are nervous to let people out on their own for long periods.

Take two examples here,

Customer one.

8 Hour CR-V Test Drive, it was agreed with customer on the third contact to let him borrow the CR-V long term, vehicle returned with 1105 miles on the clock, the vehicle was full of sand and hay, did he purchase? No, but he had a great day out with his family.

Customer Two,

Civic Type S weekend test drive, vehicle returned with only 69 miles on the clock, ok on return inspection, however when driven then inspected byu the workshop, massive dent in the o/s/f wheel and the engine undertray missing. Ofcourse the customer didnt know anything about it and the vehicle drove fine to him, but wasnt really the vehicle for him!!!!!!!!!!

We still operate long term tests here, I am a strong believer in them, but I just wanted you to know there are people out there spoiling it for all of you!!!

Andy, does your dealership deal with Motability purchases?

Also are there any plans for say a 24hr or 48hr test drive?

As a disabled driver it can take some time to get fully used to a vehicle so a longer period is helpful. I also think that disabled drivers like myself have not got time to waste joyriding test cars as per your example, and would appreciate the extra assistance when choosing a car.

Hi

Sorry we are not a motorbility Centre, we do not have the accreditation.

Have you spoken to Osbornes/Lind/Inchscape, whoever they are this week!

Try Ashley Ager in Colchester, failing that Andrew Crocker in Darlingtons of Harlow, is a very helpful chap.

Let me know how you get on if youd be so kind.

Regards
