Replacement headlights ..another post sorry

first off sorry for another post on this subject but my eyes hurt now from spending the last hour or so reading posts

got a 2.2 SE diesel and basically the lights are crap as most people know judging by the amount of posts on the subject

well ive spent most of the morning reading through them in the hope of sorting out what i want ,all i have done is confuse myself more
am i right in saying the SE model hasnt got HID`s so my choice of replacement is limited ?

Obviously i want to be legal and safe etc and are looking at replacing all the front lights for something a lot better than the candles that are in at the minute

Thanks

Try the HIDs before you buy - they are not the high output 'projector' style used by BMW etc which cast a great well formed beam, but just an HID light source in a reflector similar to standard. In my opinion they are not that much better than the 'normal' set up, and of course the main beams are not HID anyway

You can always upgrade bulbs to Osram Nightbreakers or similair.

Osram Nightbreakers review

Even on cars with HIDs, they are only on the dipped-beam.
(I.e. not "Bi-Xenon")
Therefore, I have uprated the main beam on mine to Nightbreakers.

I am no expert on the UK model specs, but the Wiki says that the SE has HIDs.

Also, you may want to adjust them though.
I have, big differance.

Hi,

I bought all my bulbs from Autobulbs, where we have a discount.

Have a look here:
10% off at AutobulbsDirect - and list of common items for the Civic

If you search their site, you should find the Nightbreakers on there also. I did.

I have the Nightbreakers fitted and it makes a vast improvement over the standard fit bulbs. I believe the Philips X-treme bulbs some members have fitted are very good too.

try ebay for the replacements too as the price for all the required bulbs nightbreaker and x-treme and led are far far less than any online retailer even with the 10% off.

I have replaced the 501s, H1s and H7s too. Would like to replace the front fog bulbs with Osram Nightbreakers too but 'simple' instructions in the manual don't seem to apply to the Type R (no sign of nut/bolt...). Do you or know of any other Type R owner that has successfully replaced front fogs?

Cheers

This is on a standard car (not an R), but it might help.

Front Fog Lights

I am quite sure the actual fog lights are the same, but of course the spoiler is different.

Cheers FWH. The manual refers to these bolts too but i cannot see them due to the Type R bumper...

Anyone else help?

Cheers

Hi guys, ordering bulbs as I type.

Just to clarify. On the civiinfo Wiki guide it describes an error in the 2006 manual re H1 and H7 orientation.

Lights - Civinfo Wiki

I have the 2006 manual in hand at moment but I'm upgrading car (waiting on personal plate transfer) to the 57 plate 2.2 EX.

Bearing in mind that the new car has HID lights, what do I replace the FULL beam (which is not HID) with....H1 or H7 bulbs?

cheers Ricky

On cars with HID dipped beam, it's H1 for the main (full) beam.

Cheers FWH, wanted to be 100% before ordering... Also ordered and array of interior lights (roof) too, thought might as well as gettin 10% discount

Only went for the cheap 30% brighter pure white xeon bulbs H1 till the results of 'which is best' becomes more clear..
