My fog lamp covers.....

Hi all,
I saw Gray52's fog lamp covers and thought they were a great idea, but wondered if the design could be improved?
So I spent some time alone in the shed and came up with these. They are the prototypes and fitted to the lamps with only slight modification to the tabs which hold it to the lamp. They can be removed without taking the foglamp out, so cleaning is not an issue.
I also found clear adhesives/spacers which cosmetically looks good.
Oh and the best bit...they cost £5.34 to make the pair!!!
So what do we reckon?? Any good?

I have used them on the motorway at motorway speeds and stayed on with no problems.
The cover is a nice snug fit around the lamp and the adhesive spacers also help keep it secure.

The covers are quite clever, it would be even nicer if Honda finally had made some decent plastic fog lamps (they make plastic main lamps so I really don't get a clue with this)

Looks like a good job. What are the clear spacers and where did you get them. What tool did you use for cutting the perspex sheet?

I have used Fablon sticky back plastic to protect mine which only costs pence and is virtually invisible. I don't expect it will take as big a knock as the perspex, but 6000 miles without a problem so far.

The clear spacers are tax disc holder adhesives mae by 3m, good adhesion, flexible and easy to remove when required!!

The plastic is polycarbonate which is more flexible than perspex, cut with a hand saw and finished with sandpaper....good old elbow grease!!!!!

Hi Pumatron,
Well done on your covers. I didn't manage to achieve my second design stage of introducing clips. I tried making the cover and clip all in one piece and then forming the clip using heat. ( See other thread on this ).

One thing to watch out for is that the clip doesn't take up the free space around the lamp cutout and cause chaffing on the surround.

I am still using double sided clear tape to attach mine.

Hi Ramsey, foglamp still have room to move, (only just!), you can see in one of the pictures the air gap between cover and picture. The cover is designed to sit on the foglamp rather than sit in the bumper.
Chaffing at present does not appear to be a problem.

The prototype took around 5 hours from conception to birth.

I am going to test the covers a little more before I make anymore to make sure that they are 100% value for money and reliable.
I would probably sell them for around £15-£20 a pair including postage as anymore than that is abit of a rip-off really as the materials are so cheap.
I reckon I could make a set in an hour.

When 'testing' is complete I will let you know!!!!

Thanks for interest.

Just imagine how much time Honda would need to make a pair - and the price they would sell it for

once these are removed you will need a new set of fixings? the fixings are desiged to be kept dry if they are for a tax disk holder. what perspex are you using as the cheap stuff is not U.V stable. at the end of the day you get what you pay for...nothing more.

Fixings are reusable as have had covers off quite a few times while I was repositioning and 'fine tuning' covers. Fixings can be bought if required at £2 for a set of 30 adhesives.

I have used these fixings before for outside use and never had any problems.

Plastic used is high grade, and is uv stable.

What I got was some good covers at a sensible price....nothing more.

Can you provide covers for sale as experienced recent issue of light smashes?

Dear Pumatron

Would you be willing to make and sell a set of covers as I have recently been affected by sudden fog light failure?

Kind regards

Scott

if you look at the covers you will see they are different to mine so wont affect my patent. good luck to the guy to make these for an hour, supply the fixings and post them out for £20.
