Hi WoolyCiv
Just going off subject a tad, you mention your previous car being a Rover 75. Out of interest, how would you say the internal roominess of it compares with the Civic? I know the 75 is a bigger car externally.

I would think the Civic loses out slghtly on shoulder room but rear leg room could possibly be better on the Civic. Overall there is very little in it.

With regards to the outside dimensions, if you include the wing mirrors, the Civic is actually wider by about 30mm just enought to give me problems reversing into my garage.

I notice on the new Type R the rear turn indicator and the Stop/Tail lights have swapped places (See CivPilots posting the Type-R forum) and the left side of the tailgate spoiler seems to have a repeater. Could this be a modification to overcome the rear turn indicator problem on all models ...or is it just unique to the Type R Doesn't it look gorgeous..........I'm drooling

Just thinking about part numbers for a minute, but a little off topic. About 7 years ago I helped a friend build a Cobra kit car, we wanted a start button and the only one he knew that lit up was an XJ220. So off we go to the Jag dealer to ask for a spare starter button for the XJ220. Off he goes comes back with the workshop manual (still wrapped in cellophane), you should have seen his face trying to figure out what we wanted the part number for, especially when we then asked for a price for a handbrake off the XJ-S.

For info the starter button was about £27. Handbrake £95.

...well, I said earlier what I thought the reply would be and I wasn't far off. However, lets wait and see as they have 'passed my comments to Honda UK for a response'.

I don't like front indicators that are situated between the headlights & the front grille, rather than outside - I find that they can be difficult to see at night.

At least on the front you also have the repeaters on the door mirrors.

I've had an e-mail from Honda HQ and they state that the indicators meet EU regulations. They do NOT recommend fitting LED bulbs.

ps: I've asked them if they are planning to bring out retro-fit repeaters like they have on the new Type-S.

pps: There are no plans at present to supply retro-fit repeaters.

I've been in touch with 'Autobulbs Direct' and they have confirmed that 'you will get better light output if you put a same colour bulb behind a corresponding lens'. So that means the Amber 3156 21W 19LED Wedge should give a better light and be more visible. They went on to say that if it didn't work for you then they would take them back for a refund, providing they were in saleable condition, so open carefully Can't say fairer than that Now all we need is someone to test them; dont forget you may need resistors as well but there is plenty of room behind the lens and ample wire exposed.

nb: see also the similar thread 'Lane change indicators'.

I've been in touch with Auto Express today and put the problem to them in case they have ever done (or were thinking of doing) a comparison test on rear light bulbs vs LED. Nothing showed on their 'Product Test' listing.

Hi Jazz, I think it's only a problem when the sun is shining onto the rear of the car (ie:if you're heading West mid morning or East mid afternoon); it reflects in the clear lens cover. Other times it's fine as you say.

Converting to LED's will cost around £25 so I'll see what reaction I get from Auto Express first.

Well I'm sorry to report that the LED bulb is too large to pass through the bulb aperture in the rear lens assembly. I held one in place behind the aperture and it appeared as bright and was a deeper Amber through the lens, even though there was a light spillage around where I was holding it. It would have been a solution to the bright sun problem I'm sure.

Has anyone tried a standard Amber bulb as a replacement for the Clear standard bulb

About 1mm on the diameter. Not much, I know, but I wasn't going to start filing out the hole in case it made the bulb holder a loose fit (I don't have a Dremmel, so it would have been a hand jobby).

I didn't fit the resistor (you would need to fit them and they do supply crimps as well), but I had one flashing (nearside) on the 'Hazards' and it looked a deeper Amber when compared to the standard bulb (offside).

Only hope is if someone has tried (or will try) an Amber bulb behind the Amber lens.

I've just been onto the Autobulbs website again and noticed that they do a 21W 9LED replacement (I tried the 21W 19LED). Whether they would be the same diameter or slightly smaller I don't know, so I am contacting them to check out the ABD 7440 in Amber; I will also ask about output as, although there are fewer LED's, they may be larger and give off overall the same bightness.

Watch out for second hand LED's and bulbs being sold on E-bay, coming from the Warwickshire area!
