I've just had the rear assembly off (again!) to see if the lens comes apart so that the larger diameter LED could be fitted with the socket 'in-situ'. The three small screws though seem to just hold the reflector in position. I've e-mailed Autobulbs and advised them that the LED upgrade needs to be 20mm max o/all diameter. I've also done a Google search for LED's and they all appear too large. Ps: I've also contacted Powerbulbs with the same question but also asking about replacing with the Philips Silver Vision PSVWY21W Amber bulb for a more intense Amber with no loss in brightness. Just had a reply from Autobulbs direct. They say the ABD 7440 21W 9LED Amber are smaller in diameter and will fit fine, as will the Philips Silver Vision WY21W Amber.
Now, it's going to be a bit cheeky of me to order another set of bulbs to test, so bearing in mind both types will fit, who's going to try what NB: The LED's are not cheap! Total cost with resistors is around £25. The WY21W Amber are NOT led and work out at £15-45 per pair. Al. Last edited by allan40alt; 5th October 2006 at 21:53. Reason: Added NB. |

Re: 501 LED Super Bright White. I have now tested these in both the front map lights and the front side (position) lights and they are perfect if you want a pure white light. I have the white LED festoon in my rear interior centre light but I was disappointed with the 'yellow/cream' look to the front map lights, even though I had changed these previously to the 'blue' coloured bulbs (the 'free gift' LED bulbs from Autobulbs Direct are NOT powerful enough for the map lights). These 501 LED Super Bright White, however, are powerful enough and are a perfect match for the centre light I have and are pure white.
I currently have the 'free gift' LED's in the side lights but I have tested these 501 LED SBW's and they are much brighter and do not have any 'blue' tinge to them when viewed at an angle. So I've now had to spend some more money and ordered another pair of the SBW's. (cost £15-99 incl P&P + a free gift of your choice from http://www.autobulbsdirect.co.uk ). |

gg, I see you have the blue interior lights, so you probably have the blue festoon LED in the rear. The front map lights have to be these 501 LED SBW. They're; I've just spent £15.99 of your money (oh; and a set for the side lights, that's, erm, £31.98 but they should outlast the life of the car!).

Plus free gifts which I don't think I'll then use. Is the LED's seriously better in sidelights? I wouldn't have expected them to be |

For anyone who wants to see the difference these 501 LED Super Bright White make to the position (side) lights then follow this link:

Now, back to the rear indicators visibility.
I have spoken to Philips Automotive Lighting and to both Autobulbs and Powerbulbs. They all confirm previous comments on this thread that you get a more intense light by placing an Amber bulb behind an Amber lens. Honda CS and Powerbulbs have advised against using LED's. John Conboy (MD of Power Bulbs Ltd) went on to say that the WY21W will help the situation. With all the comments in mind I am opting for the WY21W Philips Silver Vision Amber wedge bulb as this is a direct replacement and does not require any modification to the fitting. These are available from both Autobulbs (£15.45 pair +free P&P+free gift of choice) and Powerbulbs (£13.45 pair +free P&P+free W5W blue bulbs). http://www.powerbulbs.com http://www.autobulbsdirect.co.uk |

I'm pleased to report that the new bulbs have been fitted (only took me 5 mins total) and the turn indicators are now a deeper colour amber with the same brightness. I liken the colour of the new bulbs installed to be an orange/amber whereas previously they were a yellow/amber. There does not appear to be any loss of brightness to the naked eye.
This deeper colour amber should compensate for the glare of the sun on the clear outer lens and make the turn signal more visible to following traffic. Replacement bulb is the WY21W Philips Silver Vision Amber wedge bulb. |

The sun is shining brightly today so I parked my car rear end towards it with the hazard flashers on and they were clearly visible from behind at all angles. I parked on a slope and walked back down to view from a lower angle at a distance and they were fine.
These replacements appear to have done the trick. |

I wonder if these would be any good for the brake/side lights & the rear indicators? |
