Any Broken Fogs Whilst Sporting Gray52 Fog Light Protectors?
I was thinking today whether any one has had a broken light whilst they have had fog light protectors on?
Or whether it is just feasable that all our broken lights could be down to road debris as Honda are saying? |

I haven't seen any reports of problems once gray52 fog light protectors are fitted.
Which does seem to indicate that road debris is the main cause of the smashed fog light. But you would have hoped that the glass would be up to the job |

I have just had my protectors delivered form Gray52 (thanks Gray, they're splendid).
I still believe the issue is heat related, and the fact the protectors are there will protect the glass from the 'ambient cold' to a certain extent. There is also a train of thought suggesting that minor damage, invisible to the naked eye is responsible when combined with excess hot or cold temperatures, such as those over the recent winter period and when the fogs are in use or sun hits the car for a prolonged period after a sustained cold journey. |

Also most reports don't mention that they were been used at or near the time, with some people actually saying that they had never used them. |

I'm not sure that the number of reported breakages and the number of protectors in use would be sufficient to speculate with.
Even so. they should be able to withstand the average stone impact. I don't see many reports of broken headlights/perspex grill, which must receive a similar number of hits. |

mine fogs are still "alive" after 12k miles with the covers
BUT: on a really cold morning (-10C) I was driving and when I arrived I have seen that my cover got a huge impact and was broken!!!! didn't fell off, I have fixed it with a bit of tape IT HAS SAVED MY FOG! I am sure that that impact would def. had been too much for the glass. Unluckily because of the cold temp I think the plastic was too rigid and that's why it has broken.. or the impact was that huge.. who knows!? It's def. a good thing to have that cover! Strongly recommended by me! I will post pics soon! |

I have asked him.
I can confirm that he (Gray52) has had no reports of anyone having a breakage while fitted with one of his covers. We both agree with each other that breakage is not heat related...until such times as can be proven otherwise of course. Therefore the debate rumbles on with Honda denying responsibility. |

Can't see it being anything to do with temperature as I had a Fog lamp break and I'd never turned it on apart from to check it worked. I reckon it's down to stones/road debris and it maybe a combination of the position on the car plus the flatness of the glass. I was surprised at how thick the glass is.

when did these fall off? how have they been lost? did you contact me regarding this? ive had this before with someone else, he had used a cleaning wipe to clean the fog light lense which looked clean but it had left a residue on the lense, hence the fixings did not stick and the covers come off. covers were on his drive in the morning. so it was a simple case of finding out what had happened, and after he explained what he had used to clean the lense it was a case of start again with something else to clean the lense and covers and with some new fixings it was sorted. i still have my proto type lense covers on and i keep meaning to make a new set as these are not as good as the ones i sell. |

I have to confess that I "borrowed" Gray's idea and made some covers for myself. These had been on the car for a full year and 14,000 miles with no problems.
Until I went on holiday...... We were flying to the USA, so I parked in one of the long-stay off-site car parks at Edinburgh airport and left the car for 3 weeks. (It's a 2.2 and I was worried it wouldn't start - see other posts - but it was fine.) However, the day after I returned home, I found I had lost BOTH fog light covers! I really doubt that both fell off of their own accord, so I can only conclude that they were knicked - probably from the car park, since the car wasn't out of my sight for long since getting it back. So if anybody in the Edinburgh area is suddenly sporting fog covers, they're probably mine! I've used Glasgow Airport dozens of times with no problem, so it's my own fault for trusting these Edinbuggers! |
