LED replacements for tail, brake and indicator lights

Has anyone found suitable LED replacements for the tail, brake and indicator bulbs yet?

I seem to remember someone trying some 24? LED cluster lights for the brake lights a bit back (which didn't fit as they were too big) but I'm sure there are a lot more options now, and wondered if anyone had tried them?

Especially as 99.9% of LED replacement bulbs etc. are illegal for road use.

I believe I read it on a lights site, stating that the current DVLA or whatever regulations have no way of testing and therefore E rating these bulbs except where they have been supplied from factory, I will try to dig out the info from somewhere.

Also, 90% are not E marked or Dot marked (especially those on ebay).

ATB,
Tom

I got it from the LED bulb package, read it carefully to avoid trouble. It depends on where you live, I can't have these LEDs in Germany because police here are very strict, in neighboring Poland probably as long as the lights are working properly nobody would even ask

But technically your still doing that in a diode, it's just it is sealed with no vacuum-gap around the wire surely, thats why they last so long?????

No you're not, an LED directly converts electricity into photons, that's why they don't heat up, and why they consume significantly less power.

No you aren't,

a LED has no filament But unlike ordinary incandescent bulbs, they don't have a filament that will burn out, and they don't get especially hot. They are illuminated solely by the movement of electrons in a semiconductor material, and they last just as long as a standard transistor.

taken from here Howstuffworks "How Light Emitting Diodes Work"

Fair enough, I did put the qs to indicate I wasn't sure.

Also "Because heating a piece of wire to produce light seems so 20th Century?", and a fossil suel driven internal combustion engine isn't?

True, but that part would be the slightest bit more expensive to replace.

Here we go Maplin state the car ones the sell are []Maplin > 12V BAY15s 19 x LED Red
"• All products are for off road and show use only
• Not legal for use on public highways"

As do the majority of LED bulb boxes; I beleive even if they are E-marked, they are not currently covered by legislation in the UK, as they have not been sufficiently tested, but can't find where I got it from, probably from my few chats with traffic police from when I modded my Corsa (back when I was immature and di silly things like that ), it had Lexus clusters and LED bulbs, got a right ticking off and a 7 day wonder if memory serves (however luckily my mate was driving when it got tugged).

Audi A6 Avant (at least some of them) has LED tail lights.
But these are original certified items, not aftermarket.

Oh and most 3rd brake lights are LED...including..?...

There is one main problem with installing led to our cars. We have a very uncommon type of bulbs. In Honda we have those as stop, taillights and rear turn signal:

and these are the most common mainly produced as led:

Unfortunately the ending is very different and its impossible to find led bulbs fitting to our cars

I've found a suitable led bulbs for Civic. This model is called 7443 or 7440 (not sure which one exactly) like this one:
7443, Car Tuning Styling, Women's Clothing, Car Accessories items at low prices on eBay.co.uk
