Rear Fog Lights
Hi all,
I have a question for you all. Are there one or two fog lights at the back. I tried mine the other day and there's only one! Although the opposite side looked like there was some space for another one. Just wondered, that's all. If there are supposed to be two, I'm going back to the dealer and ask him to fit / fix the other one, I've never used (well once to check) it so it can't have blown from over use, and I've only had the car since Sept 1st (2006). Thanks! |

It has already been dicussed, have a little search.
Most cars today only have one, although I prefer the symmetrical look of two! Which one of the two is used depends on whether it is LHD or RHD. I have wondered what would be involved of wiring up the second 'dummy' light, but that has been discussed too! |

You find more here:
Fog lights - legality I think the idea of there being one light is to differentiate fog lights from brake lights (for the cars behind). |

The reason that that only fit one is that the law states that only one is needed. In that case, I think it is purely a cost cutting excercise. If that one bulb goes, you won't have anything.

Some cars do have two lights ( - but motorbikes dont have one (as standard!) Many a time I've been on deserted M-Way/Dual Carriageway and wished I'd had a fog light on the rear of my bike!) I believe 2 lights give a better 'perspective' of the vehicle |

I had a Celica and I fitted a left hand drive rear fog light to it.
Made it look much neater in the fog. ......but then no one could see it anyway!!! |

Interesting to read wikipedia, citing the 2 persepectives on this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Automot...Rear_fog_lamps Proponents of twin rear fog lamps say two lamps provide vehicle distance information not available from a single lamp. Proponents of the single rear fog lamp say dual rear fog lamps closely mimic the appearance of illuminated brake lamps (which are mandatorily installed in pairs), reducing the conspicuity of the brake lamps' message when the rear fogs are activated. |

I prefer one fog lamp, then when you are following the idiot who has them on in the rain you can at least tell when they start to brake.

I like two! Agree with the brake light thing, but if the seperation is big enough, alond with the fact cars have 3 brake lights, I don't see a problem.
As I have said before, i like symmetry, so if a car must have 1 light, I think it would look good centred! |

I'd go for two every time, symmetry and safety - the light(s) are there to provide visibility, even if someone initially mistakes it for a brake light at least they have seen it and with two bulbs you still have one bulb if the other burns out.
At least we get two reversing lights. Mike |

I made a manual in the "how to" section, to add an extra fog light and use it as 2 extra positioning lights. (see my avatar)
The original fog lights keeps his original function if you turn it on. |
