Hi,

I think the bumper has to come off - mine did when I had the fog lamp replaced, and was told the same procedure applied for the bulb.

I stand to be corrected though...

Check the owner's manual. It is quite detailed and does not say that the bumper has to come off.

I can recall reading that you have to turn your wheels to full lock, and then remove a panel in the wheel arch to access the rear of the spot lamps???

I had my front bumper off a while ago to install the front splitter. I noticed that the fog lights are held in by, I think, three screws. If you remove the wheel arch trim on which ever side the fog light bulb needs replacing, ( as explained in the wiki ) there is a screw behind that trim that holds to top of the front bumper by the headlight. This screw along with the clips on the wheel arch trim also hold the under arch black plastic shield. Once these are removed the shield will be free along the wheel arch edge and so you'll be able to pull it away from the edge of the bumper and get you hand in to remove the screws holding the fog light and replace the bulb.

The front fog lights are held in by one 10mm bolt nothing else.
Take the bumper off as it only takes 5 minutes.
a couple of plastic clips underneath,2 x 10mm bolts underneath.Pop the wheel arch trim off up to about headlight level to gain access to the last phillips screw then pull the bumper off, dissconnect loom from spot lights and job done.

Taking the bumper off doesn't take long, you're right but there is no need to and you run the risk of scratching it .

I'll have to go out and buy a socket set soon then to save the cost of the stealers ripping us off !!

Dealer fit fog lamps should have two holes drilled in the bumper to allow a socket to reach the bolt WITHOUT removing the bumper first. However it seems that not many dealers can be bothered drilling these holes...maybe because most people would give up and get the dealer to change the bulb for a small (!) payment.
Luckily, I noticed that no holes were drilled when mine were fitted and one complaint later it was sorted with the excuse "we forgot".

Correct the dealers should drill the bottom of the bumper when fitting fog lamps.
If your bumper has not got the 2 holes drilled each side do it yourself.
The underside of the bumper will show the where the bumper needs to be drilled by means of 2 circles each side.
I am not sure of the exact size but believe it to be around the 20 / 22mm size.
One hole is for removing the 10mm bolt so the lamp can be removed and the other is for adjustment.

The size you need to drill is 20mm.
One hole is for removing the 10mm bolt so the lamp can be removed and the other is for adjustment.
If you look up through the holes you will see the following.
1 x 10mm bolt....this is the bolt that will allow you to remove the fog light.

1 x 10mm bolt with a phillips screwdriver in the middle of it.....this is to adjust the fog light.

So you only need to remove the 10mm bolt for changing the bulbs? No need for taking the bumper off and removing wheel arch trim, correct?

Correct, no bumper removal at all, one 10mm socket, 1 pair of hands, 2 mins later and the foglight pops out the front of the bumper!

Sounds almost too easy
I have the Type R and on the left side (drivers side) there is not drilled any holes in the plastic but there is markings so it should not be any problems for the drilling.
The bolt is very deep in behind the plastic and I think the Type R:s front spoiler makes the bolt even more deep to get to. (sorry for my bad english)
