Smashed fog lamp? - register here

If you have suffered a smashed front fog lamp, please can you post once in this thread (just come back and edit your post if you need to add or change anything). The idea is to document how many of these lamps are breaking and under what circumstances, to establish whether there is a failure trend, or the lights are just unlucky.

Any discussion on the subject should be kept here:

I have one - right (passenger) side.
Car - 1.8 sport, 6 months old
Mileage - 21000 kilometres
Appeared - no idea when and how. Was pointed to me about a week ago by the garage when the car went for service. Could not be too old, because the front glass was missing but there was no dirt or insects inside. Could be though that the garage removed the broken glass that very day before showing it to me. The mechanic who did the car had already left, i only got to speak to the person at the counter. So, i did not get to see the pattern of the cracks either.
Cost of replacement (estimated, i did not accept it yet) - 2400 DKK (ca. 220 pounds), of that 1100 for the light itself (we all like their labour prices don't we )

Number broken: 1 Drivers side (right)
Age of car: less than 4 months
Mileage: 5000 - 6000
When driving, or "it just appeared": Appeared, but could have been due to not looking enough. The more I think about it the more I think it happened whilst parked in Heathrow during all that stinking hot weather, I noticed it when I got back to the car, it had been parked for 3 days, couldn't have been a collision I was parked next to a lamp post.
Cost of replacement: ?? Company paid along with some bodywork damage. I put the 2 together and assumed it was a stone chip.

No picture, I think you used mine above.

Front passenger side smashed. No sign of stone chips or any other damage. Cost £166 to replace so I am with audijohn; this is too much of a coincidence and I aint paying for another.

User db9 also has a smashed light:

I'm not sure how much it costs to get them fixed, but it does beg the question as to whether or not it's worth getting them fixed if they break so easily. The car is 7 months old.

Broken Foglight 1.8ES

I have had the offside foglight broken.
I heard a crack; no oncomming traffic, no falling acorns or chestnuts.
The dealer advised writing to Honda as he could find no point of impact.

smashed fog light

I have a Honda Civic ex - 5 months old - Guess what - a cracked fog light which cost me £150.00 to repair. It happened after i started using the fog lights for the first time in December.
I have been in contact with Customer services at Honda - who say this is a problem they are unaware of.
CAN I SUGGEST WE ALL GIVE EM A RING ON 01753 590760 IF WE HAVE EXPERIENCED A FOG LIGHT BREAKAGE.LET EM KNOW WE ARE A FORCE. ITS NOT JUST THE ODD LIGHT BEING BROKEN.

There has to be a design fault - but Honda refuse to accept that.

I have spoken with the local dealership in Chippenham who suggest we all contact Honda - The more complaints they get the more they might listen.

SO COME ON GUYS GET RINGING NOW

Number broken: 2
Age of car: 6mths
Mileage:18000 miles
When driving, or "it just appeared": It just appeared
Cost of replacement: Not done yet, approx £200 per side from dealer, £169+VAT per pair from spares company

1 Foglight doesn't move, the other one feels very loose.

If we don't get any satisfaction from Honda, I'll get in touch with Which Magazine (I'm a subscriber) My breakage patterns are exactly the same as those pictured elsewhere.

i am driving the same roads as you sir... had one of my fog lamps smashed. don't know how it happened, never noticed any sounds of impact or anything. and, hardly ever had them on - maybe 3 times for 2 minutes, just to play with them.
