Misterious extra front indicator lights

Did anyone notice the extra front indicator lights?
There is an extra 5W small bulb next to the 21W
Or is it used in the UK for positioning lights? Like in the US, but the car is not sold in the US !?

There is nothing mentioned in our manual even not how to replace the bulb, nor is it indicated in the list of bubs. (it does appear in the diagrams I have, but the diagrams do not show the indicator LED's in the mirrors )

A quick investigation also revealed that it is about impossible to replace the bulb (I even removed the wheel cover plastic).
Strange...

Yes I noticed it last week. A friend of mine and I were debating if it was a bulb or just a refection of the other bulb as it seemed to be rather a strage shape. But I guess it was a refelction making it look like that.

I suppose it could be a position light like they use in the USA. But as far as I'm aware, you must only have white lights at the front of cars here in the UK. But saying that, I noticed a few years ago, the Land Rover Discoveries, were being fitted with amber front lights.

Well,
some Vovo's and BMW (5 series) have also orange positioning lights at the corner in Europe.
I also installed them on my previous car ( CRV ) by injecting 5V onto the regular front indicator lights.
It looks good and gives a "safe" corner indication of the car...
Will try to do it on the Civic, this 5W bulb is so tempting to be used.
I think the front bumber has to go off, to access this bulb.

I can recommend the 501 LED Super Bright White for the front position lights (£15.99 pair from www.autobulbsdirect.co.uk ).

These give a brilliant bright white light as opposed to the dull yellowy look to the standard or the 'blue' 5w bulbs. Click on this link to see the difference:

Ps: I've fitted these in the front map lights as well. They go better with the rear centre light I've replaced with the LED festoon.

Hi Allan.

Can you supply a photo of what the lights look like when they are on and are they easy to install?

Hi Aubrey, they actually look like the link 'see the difference' picture. Very white and very bright.

It is simply a case of removing the current side (position) bulbs and replacing with these LED's (they are 'right way' dependant so if you fit them and they don't light then simply un-plug and turn them to re-fit in the bulb socket).

I've just been outside in the rain to take a quick couple of piccies with my phone. The lights are actually slightly brighter and whiter than they appear in these photo's as I had to take them at a slight angle due to the glare in the lens.

Thanks Allan for putting yourself out and taking the piccies. I know that they won't come out in the photo's as they look for real. But they look really great and I have ordered a pair.

I'd quite like to do something with the repeater flashers in the door mirrors as I think they could be a lot brighter. I used to have a Civic Sport and they were a lot better than the new Civic.

Try them in the map light position first to see if you prefer them to the normal bulbs. Whoops, I've just spent some more of your money.

Try just one at first and compare the difference; quite amazing.

Sorry Aubrey, I would love to buy them for you but if you do it for one..........

Well, they are ordered so we'll have to see... I'm sure that there will be a great difference as there is when you have the HID's on and compare the difference to the normal side lights. They look like they have jaundice!

Just to get back to Steff's question, it looks like they are used in the UK possibly for when emerging from a side road. Strange they are not mentioned in the handbook

No Charles, My Car has the lights ON and an extra pair if you look good
I would like to rewire the "extra" 5W bulb as corner light.
Did somebody removed the front bumber yet (it seems the only way to access it) ?

An nice bulb from Osram, to replace the dull standard ones.
It is Halogen bulb, if you can find it...
I found it once in Germany 20Euro per pair, it is real white bright.

In the handbook it says you access the front turn indicator by removing the inner fender.

Turn the wheels to full lock to give some working room and use a flat tipped screwdriver to remove the two holding clips from the inner fender. Pull the inner fender cover away from the fender and bumper. This gives access to the bulb socket.

Hello Allan,
Like I wrote before, I did remove this plastic inder fender (completely!).
But you can only access the 21W bulb, the 5W is a bit further, you can not even see it or feel it. (probably that is why they only mention the 21W bulb in the manual)
I chekked this on the right side wheel.

Forgot something;
You have to lift the car and REMOVE the wheel to remove the inner fender, do not believe the manual on that one.
