only one rear fog light

has anyone noticed we only have one rear fog light, the one on the nearside does not have a bulb fitted in it. my car is the ES maybe other models have two fogs, it would be interesting to find out.

They all only have one fog light.
Legislation in many countries only allow one.

As descriped in the Wiki.

Yup just 1 here......tbh its what I expected as no other car i have owned has had more than 1....though I have only just noticed that the front fogs stay in the on position even after you turn the headlights off (although they obviously only come on when the side or main lights are on)....bit odd if you ask me....every other car i have driven it cancels after you turn the main lights off.

rear fogs turn off when the lights are off as you cant see them from the driving position, the front ones stay on cos you can see them and therefore will remember to turn them off. (alledgedly) Plus, apparently, you may want to drive with your front fogs on without the need for the rear to be on. (other than renault drivers in sth london, i've never seen the need)

If it is a Renault Megane, their headlight bulb may have blown and with the cost of fitting a bulb up to £100!!!!! Explains why Renault fit front fog lights to so many of their cars!!!!

I questioned this with Honda and they said "by law European countries only need one rear fog light"

yes you only need one fog light in the rear, but plenty of cars have 2 rear fog lights, C Class, 5 Series,...

In foggy conditions its much easier to see when the car in front is braking when it only has one foglight (depending on the light cluster design)... maybe thats why the Euro legislation recommends it...?

no brainer really! if a car had two fogs it would look like it was always braking
to the following car. sensible 'euro law' for a change.

Also, it is cheaper to fit one rear fog instead of two.

We just noticed it this weekend and were trying to decide if it was worth taking it in for warranty (car is less than 2 months old) or just buying and replacing it ourselves....

Looking into the manual to see how hard it would be to change probably saved us some embarrassment
