Hi Poejay,

I've had my EX since September 1st and I would love to have this feature on my Civic too. Unfortunately, it doesn't have this feature.

However, this could be a good thing as I'm sure it won't be a good thing for the cars' battery!!!

I haven't seen it anywhere in the manuals or settings BUT when I was messing around trying to get the dashboard diagnostic flashy lighty thing to work I am sure the headlights stayed on for some time and then went off. Problem is I can't make it do it again

No it doesn't have, but was another thing on my wish list i gave to Honda. Had it on my Pug 307 and was really handy with no worries on the Batt power.

OK,
I am looking into it ( I made it for my previous cars, Shuttle, CRV) can't miss the feature on the Civic. I want to do it ASAP.
I have the diagrams, so I am thinking to turn on the posioning lights, toghether with the interior lichts. Or turn on the lights after closing or openign the lock ( remote). Will keep you guys informed.
For my previous cars I made a circuit hat checked if doors where unlocked or locked twice within 5 secs, then I turned on the headlights for 30secs.
Anybody else have suggestions how they want it?

Ideally tied into the daylight sensor, although that probably complicates things more than it's worth...

Hi Stef.. Sound really good that somebody with the right skills want to "extend" the functionality of our great car.

I certainly would like this feature as well. I have been used to this feature from my previous car, A Citroen C4.

One thing that I think would be nice is that when you turn off the ignition off, the car leaves the light on for the selected period of time.
(Could be selected with two dip switches:
0: OFF
1: 15 sec
2: 30 sec
3: 60 sec)

I also like the function that it turns on the light when you unlock / lock the car twice within 5 seconds. Cool. (as the remote lacks that extra button).
(I live in Denmark and my car has daylight running light)

I would like to contribute to the SW development, if you would like to make it a joint effort
(I work as a Software Engineer)

Best regards..

all sounds great

please just bear in mind that for EX owners, 2 blips on the keyfob enables the superlocks

But I'm sure you'd thought of that anyway

Which reminds me:
mine is NOT an EX model. Of course the board should be designed to work with both models.

For My CRV I designed a Microcontroller circuit (Microchip) that turned on the headlights after closing or opening twice in a row, using the remote.
Now I think to make a small relay circuit (that everybody can make) that connects the interior lights to the positioning lights (front and rear).

So the positioning lights (consume only 4A) will work same as interior lights.
There must a small circuit interface since the interior light is driven by the Car Controller system, also there is a dimmer circuit that dims the interior light.

The only down sight is that this will ALWAYS work, also during daytime, but who cares?

Homig lights are working now;
I made small circuit that connects the interiour lights to the positioning lights.
Now I can turn on and off the positioning lights using the remote.
Also when you open the door the positioning lights come on.
I will post a how to do it, in the "How to" section

You thought of selling these boards?

Preferably with full instructions and everything; something where NO soldering is required?
Or maybe I SHOULD drive to Belgium!

Thanks Guys,
I realy love the feature, specially in these dark winter days!
I am working on the "how to" I can tell that for you who have the floor lights, the wiring will be easy since you got the 4 wires to connect to...
I did not make a board since the circuit is so small.
Check the "how to" section soon. Probably I post it Wednesday.

Wow! Might not have the balls to do that.

Is it possible along a similar line to connect the light sensor to a permanent live that such as the interior lights and would turn on/off with the lock unlock function?? Providing you have your lights on Auto of course....

Edit: Just read the thread re the light sensor being in the bit behind the rear view mirror, is this not in the ideal place to take a power supply from the interior lights?

Well, you need components, ( and balls..)
Is it a problem that this feature also work during day time? Don't think so.
I see no need to drain the battery and connect to the auto light circuit...
My circuit consumes zero Amps during idle... and is safe for the original car electronics (important for waranty).

I don't see any problem with it being on during the day, but would look a lot better if it only came on at night, any chance of using the light sensor, or do we take from your answer it is not possible.

Bloody typical, I hate people like me when I am at work, they didn't have a solution, you offer them a good solution and all of a sudden they want an even better one, yet 10 seconds previously they couldn't do it anyway.

Sorry Stef, I do appreciate your efforts!

No problem richierich,
A circuit to do what you want, would involve using a micro controller.
Decoding the digital signal coming from the lights/wiper detection
Then decide to turn on or off the homing lights.
I think the effort is not worth the reward.

I makes me a bit sad that all the extra stuff we need can be done by Honda, only writing a few more program lines in the controler!

- Homing lights (with light detection): simple few lines in soft
- Park indicators: Using indicator switch, turn on parking lights left or right (would look great in these side mirrors!) like most German cars.
- Auto lights overide: If while driving, you turn on the lights by hand, and then set them back to auto, they should stay on untill you turn them off or remove the ign key. (sollution for the between dark and day situations).
