Ok so my upgrade lights have arrived a month before my car
Just for any of those thinking of ordering the 501LEDs note that they are marked (in smal print) as only suitable for show or non-road use as they are not E certified. Still intend to give them a whirl when the car arrives though as they are only sidelights |

Fitted the H1 Philips Blue Vision today in the main beam. Good result, well pleased.
Fitted the free Blue coated side light bulbs into the front reading lights for a whiter and brighter look (but set the door switch to off). ....as I also replaced the interior festoon with the 269 LED Blue. Really bathes the interior with a beautiful blue light when a door is opened. Didn't order the 501 LED Super Bright White as the order came with a free gift choice and I chose a pair of '501 LED effect' bulbs. Very pleased as they really are white compared to the pevious side light 'yellowy' look. Very pleased indeed. |

I have an ES and have the standard lights. I am happy with them now, but may consider changing them when one blows. I won't replace two perfectly good lights.
As I have said before, I will only change them to a slightly bluer or whiter light if it really does peform better and make night driving safer for me and other road users. |

I'm sorry many thanks for all the replies My oops - what I was trying to ask was Can somone put together a list (with pics would be fab!) of aftermarket bulbs that they have used Along the lines of [u]sidelights[/b] XXX - £n.nn tried these, they were rubbish, more yellow than standard YYY - £n.nn these were fab as normal bulbs, quite a good match to HID ZZZ - £nn.nn these LED replacements were spot on and I'd recommend them to anyone with HIDs dipped beam (for non HID drivers obviously AAA - £nn.nn good white beam, matched well with YYY above BBB - £nnn.nn HID conversion kit main (full) beam you get the idea by now I guess If we could then collate them all into a How To thread...... Or should I just get off my fat lazy behind and trogs through this thread with a pen and paper to hand |

Bungle, there's slightly more to it. Amongst bulb manufacturers, there are different tolerances or designs in filament position, shape and power. This results in differences in the evenness of the light, the accuracy of the cut-off and of course the amount of light (where you want it). Some cars are very fussy when it comes to bulbs, and different bulbs can make a huge difference to your vision at night, and as a result your own safety. A good example is the Mk4 Golf, which had a pair of candles as standard. I'm not sure about the Civ (I have the HID lights), but I'd bet there's still a big difference to be had. Good reading material here: http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/carrevi...tests/archive/ Look for "Bulbs" in the list. I found the best in the Golf to be the Osram Silverstar (+50), it was an essential immediate upgrade! |

OK, I did say if it makes night driving for me or others safer, which a better light pattern etc will, of course, provide.
Until I see a better lamp in use, I don't see any issues with the current setup (nothing to compare it to!), so have no immediate intentions of changing them. What i was also stating by that, is that I will not change my bulbs just for cosmetic reasons (colour) if it does not improve my vision. In my old Clio, I had the model with the dual optic head lamps, rather than the diffused lens. I didn't like the yellow light and bought some blue ones to use. They weren't cheap, blew quickly and actually gave a poorer light beam than the standard, hence my hesitation. I would be very intersested if a list of tried and tested bulbs used on our Civics is compiled. I really hate this place! There I was a couple of months ago, all happy with my car. Now I read stories of speaker upgrades, subs, blue LED interior lighting, I have seen pics of image kits and nice wheels, and now I feel my headlights are too yellow! It is making me feel the need or want to change bits. |

Bungle - wait till you start spending money on cleaning products....
hmmmm - wonder if this one will give a deeper shine - perhaps this cloth will dry it quicker - wheel cleaner!... It's a slippery slope! |

Yeah, thanks to you lot I spent a small fortune on the Maguires stuff! Not that I use it often, the hosepipe ban makes cleaning the car too much of a hastle. The thick layer of grime will start to protect the paintwork soon, anyway!
I ain't too bothered about wheels, they are always going to get messy. I will clean them occasioally, but it only looks good for a couple of miles. So, where's this list of tried and tested bulbs, then? |

As you don't want discussion on your other thread, I'll say it here. Well done, that is a really good source of info you have compiled. We should do our best to keep it updated as more people get the recommended bulbs (add to the quotes) or get different bulbs and put their opinions on them.
Good stuff! |
