There is a post on improving the LEDs on here somewhere but you have to chop the unit to bits first, apparently they are surface mount devices and could be stronger.
Indeed you can modify the units. You will need to cut the unit open to do so.
If you still have your broken units and wish to part with it I could use it to experiment on it to see the easiest method of splitting and the mounting better SMDs.
I don't want to do it to my working ones because if I mess it up I don't want to pay £50 for a new one!
Just worth mentioning that the safest way to get at the indicator unit or indeed the SOD unit is by gently prising the mirror glass off first then you can easily access the clip that holds the pod in place and no risk of cracking it, I was told this by a Honda mechanic and it worked for me when repairing the SOD unit this year.
