Hi Civhead,
I noticed that too! A quick flash (whilst looking at the front of the car through the reflection of the showroom window) with the full beam hardly gave the HIDS time to heat up, it looked a bit like lightning. I wonder if this is BAD for the HIDS... Anyone? |

What has the spare wheel got to do with this thread?
From my very limited knowledge of HID lamps, I believe they require a large current to start, then run on lower power once on. Similar to flourescent tubes. If there was any chance of damage from short bursts, the HID lights would not be connected to the 'flashing' circuit, so I would not worry. On a personal note, I would not make a habbit of flashing, it is far more dangerous and misleading than people think. |

The suggestion was made that if flashing HID's was harmful, why would they allow it to be designed and built it into the car? The point I am making is that this isn't necessarily so. The missing spare wheel is one such flaw, along with the non-working HFT.
FWIW, I suspect that regular flashing will shorten the expected life of the HID. As with a fluorescent tube, they are subject to the most stress at switch on. Connecting the HIDs to a flasher switch looks like a design flaw to me. |
