fog lamp covers

I've just fitted for lamps to my civic and wondered given the numerous posts on here regarding smashed fog lamp lenses, if Honda or anyone else had marketed a cover for the FL?.
I note from searching ebay that Subaru (to name one maker) provide them for their cars.

I'll see if I can make some, it's an easy shape to copy and simply requires a vacum forming machine.

If there was I'd manufacture them, I have plastic parts made for computers all the time - but from my quick glance at one the only issue I could see is the clearance between the edge of the glass lense and the plastic bumper.

I managed to brake one on my test drive, I had a Civic for the day and smashed it then.

Yes, the clearance is very tight. Just enough to allow them to float free of the bumper to give some degree of shock absorption. I would think it would be near impossible to et something to fit around the light. You'd need to use sticky tape or similar to fix them in front of the lamp.

you just need some perspex, pop out a fog light, draw round it and fix with something or other, and its done. done this on my last car so will be doing it to this one, when i get time.

Don't forget that not all fog lamps are breaking due to stone damage etc.
Fitting covers will not protect from the stress damage that is occuring.

Tony

Tony,
whats this about stress damage / breakage and how can you tell if the lense is broken by a stone or by stress?? What should I look out for?

v001148,
Have a look at the thread mentioned above.
I took my broken lamp to Honda HQ and they acknowleged that it was not impact damage.
I got a cheque in the post the same week.
Regards
Tony

Interesting. When I booked mine in as a possible warranty claim, I was told quite specifically that in no way was this going to be repaired under warranty. This was regardless of the fact that the nice people at Holden Honda in Norwich hadn't seen the car.

Faced with this and the fact that the light was still working, I cleaned out the glass, and stuck a piece of clear acrylic sheet in its place with silicone sealant. Then I cancelled the replacement at the dealer. Better this than paying for a replacement to break again later. I'll replace the light when I eventually get round to selling the car.

Honda the power of dreams. I dream that one day the Civic's faults will get properly fixed.
