Its probably down to a combination of heat and the glass being particularly thin (D'oh Honda!). I wouldn't recommend using foglights in heavy rain anyway, potential to blind other motorists with the surface water reflection. Rears good, front not so.

well the five people who paid for there fog lamp covers will have them very soon, as they were posted today.

it will now be very interesting to see if the people with covers suffer any breakages, but from my past cars that i have made them for ive never had a smashed fog light.

i have 3 sets left so pm me if you are interested, next day for posting will be this friday.

post some pics when you get them fitted.

How are your doing Gray52 ? any signs of stone chipping

actually Dumb question coming up so apoligies in advance?

The lights become hot after a short while - yes ?
so with the covers on - all be it with a small gap will they not
overheat?

Thinking about grabing a set and something that cam to mind

i know what you mean, but the fog lamps are only used when the weather is cold and damp. when you are driving i cannot see much heat as the cold air will be cooling them. there is an air gap, so its not like it its stuck on to the lense itself. 99.9% of a fog lamps life its not even used but is 100% prone to stone chips due to being low, hence picking up damage from road debris.

i have use them for years and never had a problem. when i see the cost of these lamps it was time to make some for my self, as i dont want to waste £200 on a pair of fog lamps only for them to get broke again.

i have 1 pair left.

Thanks to Gray52, my fog lights now have some protection from stone chips.
I think you will agree, they look really neat.
Cheers from one happy punter

Template

Gray52

Do you still have the MDF template?

Could you draw around it and scan/photocopy it and e'mail it to me?

I could then print it and use to produce a set of covers...?

I read earlier in a thread about the cost of the plastics, managed to pick up enough to make my own over the weekend from a local refuse tip..

Thanks in advance

Why not make your own template? These covers are the same shape and size as the light lens itself, so not exactly hard to go outside with a peice of paper and trace the light yourself is it?.

Hi Gray,

A scan would be great (must be 100% size though) it would help me to remake the lenses on mine (they've both shattered!) As a result, drawing around the existing ones is proving to be difficult.

I've just bought some Macron 4mm polycarbonate sheet, which is hard coated and shouldn't pit or cloud.

Ta,

Damian

if you are going to fit new lenses then you will have to take them out, this will give the the exact fit, my template will not give you the required size to cover what you will want to do.

it would take me as long to scan and send a copy of my template as it would to trace your own.

Does anyone know if they're easy to take out? I suppose I'll have to take them out to clean & dry them before fitting the lense.

D

btw The polycard I have is called Margard, not macron.

they are only held in with one bolt underneath. for what you want to do taking them out is the only way to do the job.

Thanks Gray. Just been to Tesco & thought I'd check in the manual regarding fogs. As I thought, info on removal is in there. Nice one Honda.

from what ive read they are not easy to get back, done what i needed to do fixed in the car, but yours will have to come out. why not source some second hand ones and get my after market covers to protect them?

Are they available use already? - I suppose some poor b*gger has pranged or had their pride and joy pranged

Damian,
Surprised it's in the user manual how to remove fogs! Or did they anticipate them being a consumable?

I've already got the polycarb. plus i think that the glass lenses will break anyway, sooner or later. I'm pretty confident that they'll be replaced under warranty when Honda see the error of their ways.

I don't deny though that protectors may give an extra level of insurance from stone chips, I just don't think that stone chips are the main culprit in many cases.

So, in the meantime, I'll re-lense the fogs in 4mm hard coated polycarbonate.

Miggins, I've seen a few available at the breakers. However, given the track record of the foglights, do you think we'll find many with their fogs intact?

BTW, I'm making some headway with Honda, not just for myself but for everyone who's had a breakage. I'll keep you posted as to how I'm getting on.
