I can not believe that Honda UK try to get out of these things!! When the lights rubbed paint away from my bumpers they tried to tell me it hadn't happened to anyone else but when I mentioned this site and that I had seen many photos of other Civics they with the same problem they agreed to give me new bumpers.

It is evident there is a growing issue with the fog lights and I think if any of you have paid for a cracked fog light you should be looking to Honda UK for reimbursement.

Very sorry, I have just looked for the letter and my wife has chucked it!!!
To explain what I did:
1) My dealer annotated the invoice to say there was no indication of impact damage (they had one customer with 2 fog lights gone in the first week of ownership;full refund obtained).
2) I phoned Slough and told them I was going to write to them and arranged to return the part to them.
3) I delivered the part personally to two members of customer service staff.
4) Within four days I had a letter acknowledging that there was a problem.
5) Within a week I had a cheque refunding the costs totally.
I advise caution, as quite clearly some of the photo's on this site are impact damage.
For my part I was dealt with fairly and promptly and with great courtesy.
Regards
Tony

Hi all,

Why is this happening? Is it just that the lense is thin and fragile or the heat from the ligth is cracking it?

Cant beleive there are so many instances!

Civicg, I think the fact that it's triangular glass may have something to do with it. Any misfitting during assembly may cause the stress levels near the points to rise much quicker than if the light was round.

Just an idea...

Potsy,
I think you are partially right. However I think the problem also lies with the adhesive being too rigid between the glass/reflector join.
I had the same problem years ago as a production engineer. Changing to a compliant adhesive cured the problem. I put this in my letter to Honda.
Regards
Tony
