A little late to this I know but the fixed servicing is (according to my dealer, last night):
a. only for petrol engines
b. limited on either a yearly or MILEAGE number.

So, if like me you are whacking 20K on the car each year, it's not an option (although as I'm getting the diesel it's not an option anyway!).

GAP insurance... from talking to people who have had it and tried to USE it, be warned that the insurers are sneaky buggers and largely do what they can to not pay out. One mate was refused because he had neglected to tell his GAP insurance company (not his main insurers!) that he was going to be driving aboard on holiday.

Cheers for that.

Well defo getting fixed servicing as keeping the car for awhile (well at least I plan too).

As for supaguard and GAP, getting the supaguard for free with the GAP So not too bad.

The resistor method will instantly turn the lights from dim to bright - whereas the Honda install fades up and down, á la theatre style.

HAHA, already got the car now with the ambient lighting. I love the OEM one, probably not worth the money compared to DIY but got a discount on it, also means I don't have to mess about with the car yet. Can keep it pristine for awhile.

Std fading method?

Do we know how the internal lights (those in the roof) fade out? Do they gradually reduce the voltage or use some sort of frequency shifting? I want to set my ambiant lights to work in conjunction with the std lights so that they only work as part of the locking.unlocking sequence and when opening the doors. I don't want them on when driving (I have doubts about the legality as well as wanting to see out of my car when its dark), but I want them to fade in and out as per the std ones.

Have a look at this thread

Auto dim ambient blue lighting

We have connected a set of LED's to the interior lights to get the fade in/ fade out footwell lights with the interior lights, then added a second set of lights on a dimmer switch to come on with the headlights. Give the same effect as the OEM lights for a fraction of the cost.

Hi all, Had my Type R for over a month now & regret not getting the red Ambient lighting, Is anyone selling an official Honda OEM set. and for how much?
How hard to install? how long? does it involve ripping out the top part of the car at all(interior light area)?
Plus ive heard lots of different posts on how it actually works? can some1 with the actual Honda fitted kit explain?
does it come on from deactivating alarm, & does it stay on whilst driving & if so can it be switched off?

Have a read of this thread, I've got it and I've described how mine operates. Also Holdcroft Honda sell the kits on ebay for £92, there's a bit about that too.

The lighting does stay on whilst driving but only very very faintly.

Have just fitted a pair of RED LED strips to the footwells. operates as per interior lights. Cost me £15 all in, im really pleased. I read previous threads where some1 has taken the whole Interior light compartment out & wired it from there? but you dont have to. The activated earth wire is by the fuse box, a little tricky to get to but saves the major surgery.

I would love this feature but as the car is not mine and is due to go back in three years time I think if I bugger about it will cost me more than the price of having them fitted by my dealer. Time to make some enquiries I think. If it’s too expensive to retro fit them, I’ll put it on the wish list for the new car.

Why don't you do a 'How to' as I'm sure alot of people will interested in the location of the earth wire .

I assume your lights just come on when the door(s) are opened? and don't dim to 50% when the doors are closed (and the headlights are on) like the Honda ones.

Yep operate as per interior light. Do not stay on when driving or when u have the headlights on, EXACTLY what I was after.
The "how to" i used the help of the "homing lights install", mentions the 'green' interior light wire. good luck.
