Already done that

Turned all the lights off in the garage yesterday to get the 'night' effect.

As has been said, you wouldn't want to read a map under the blue lights but the sunvisor ploy works a treat.

The courtesy light is red in the Type R. Wondered what it was and had to look it up in the manual. It wasn't that bright as I had the dash dimmed.

I may venture into the garage later to sort out my hft/phone so I'll turn it up and see how it looks at full blast.

Wow - nice blue interiro lights!
I want them too!

smb09 1999 - I'm no techie so would appreciate how you fitted the blue bulbs in. Or have I totally missed a previous "How To" thread on this?

Thanks in advance.

The standard red ones aren't anywhere near bright enough to be noticeable.

Hi SMB,

Can you let us know all the details. Like most people on here, I fell in love the way the car looked, handled, and was well completely different to anything else on the road.

Your mod looks great and a lot of people will go for it.

Very well done.

For the lights over the rear seat, simply get a small screwdriver (not a philips head), cover the head with some kitchen roll and very gently ease the plastic light cover out (NOT the grey surround - leave that). Take out the old bulb and replace with the new one - if it doesn't work first time, turn the bulb round as the + and - needs to be in correctly. Replace the plastic cover.

For the front console lights, part of the grey housing comes out (the see through plastic can't be removed by iteslf). Follow the steps above with the screwdriver and kitchen roll and ease the grey plastic out thats around the light. Remove the two bulbs and replace with the new ones (make sure you put them in the sockets correctly!). Clip cover back in place.

I fitted red LED’s to my type r, but the were to dull. Coloured the standard bulb with a red permanent marker and voila bright red light. You can get bulb lacquer but the pen worked fine. Left them switched on for 15 minutes to see what would happen to the ink when it got hot, but nothing they stayed the same colour.

Can you give me the specs of the bulbs you used and where you got them. I changed the front courtesy lights with blue capless bulbs from Halfords but not effective. I already have the foot well kit installed

Bung in 'Blue interior lighting' into the search engine and then hey presto!

Well my interior lights go off when I hit the lock button on my key fob.

Surely yours does as well.

For anyone who cant afford £15 on LED's, or who is a tight arse like me
Try Maplin.

N94CQ 12V 5W side / tail Blue x2 £1.99 each (For front)
N90CQ 12V 10W 11x30mm Blue x1 £1.99 each (For middle)
Total £5.97

These bulbs are a direct swap for the standard ones.

and if your local store is as dumb as mine you might also get double the qty. In the catalogue the price is specified as each. But when my order came in (had to be ordered from head office) each bulb was in a twin pack. I now have spares incase the decide to blow.
