Heheheh, what a tread. And I thought I was the only one with the fog lights.
Bought a pair on eBay for £90 and fitted them myself. Ni big deal.
But interesting would be what Honda has to say about all these broken fogs. Hmmmm.....

you should have bought gray52 foglight covers I think
they have already saved my fog from a big stone chip

so answering your question: YES!! there are lot of stones flying around unfortunately!

and in my view the reason why the fogs brake:
-they are big(surface)
-they or placed on a "dangerous" place (low on the side.. just in front of the wheels of the car driving in front of us)
-glass is (might be) thin

ps.: I strongly recommend to buy gray52 covers! it has def. saved my fog!
in the "fogcover thread" I have posted pics also!

Solved?

Mine went today!

And I am pretty sure what caused it!

Visibility was terrible today so had mine on. Then the Rain stopped and and I went though a couple of DEEP puddles on the left hand side. I am sure the Water hitting the glass when the lights are on broke the glass! Is it tempered glass?

it's a good question.. but it should be that type!
I can't imagine that Honda would be so stupid that they put normal glass there.. during designing the fog all the parameters of glass etc. etc. should have been defined properly!

who wants to test it? turn light on, keep it on for a longer time then spary directly cold water on it

do you think that the fog of another manufacturer would survive this test? I am not sure...

I was just thinking about it that if you have the fog cover it saves the fog against water also... it can not get that big amount of water so quickly... (theoretically... dunno)

What destroys some fogs on all cars here is driving with them on in the winter and then parking in to a pile of snow so that the fogs are touching the cold snow.

Argh! Happened to me today...
Already reported it in Smashed fog lamp? - register here

Thought of buying/making the shields myself later as the roads are now in good condition here. 3 weeks old, zero paint chips or other damage . Really thinking it must be a fault in the light from the beginning, as the chips are so small and no apparent impact point.
Damn, few cars back I had a huge stone on the driving lights -> just one small hole but the glass was intact otherwise. With these fogs it seems that if someone breathes in the general direction of the car whole glass is shattered.

Sorry had to let some fumes out
Otherwise 90% satisfied with the car!
(edit: had to decrease the procents... just remembered the problem I have with the central locking remote control, but that's another story)

You guys are blaming the rain and snow, etc. I dont believe that this will cause them to break! They should be designed to take these changes in temperature!!!

I've just seen an CTR ex-demo with a smashed fog lamp. I'm concerned as I have ordered a CTR and will take delivery of it next month. I owned a Peugeot 306 for almost 10 years and its still has the original fog lamps, and they're in the same position as the Civics. They have never smashed. Of course you can see small stone chips on the lenses but neither of them have smashed. This is why I believe that there is a fault with Civics lamps, Honda need to sort this out. I would expect Honda to replace these fog lights free of charge if mine were to break, or I would cause hell in the dealership. I do mixed driving but drive mainly on the motorway.

Its a quality and design fault!!!!!

I couldn't agree more. However, trying to get Honda to admit to any design fault is like getting blood out of a stone, handbrakes, fog lights, paint, radios, climate control, batteries ...... shall I go on?

Everything is down to the driver's fault unfortunately. I also had fog lights on my old car for seven years with no problems, the paintwork was in better condition that the civic (before re-spray) the radio worked, I didnt need to leave the car in gear for fear of killing someone it is all just one big joke.

Thats a good question, it may be a bad batch I suppose! I suppose its hard to find proof why this is happening. You'd think that a round unit would be a lot stronger that a striaght edge one (look and the shell of an egg for example).

TC are you having a MOAN???

We don't have any problems neither do two of my friends who have new civics !!!

Yes there are some cars with issues but if you look at the bigger picture
the majority of civic owners do not have any issues

I am quite sure you will find there are more unhappy Focus or golf or A3 owners in this world than there are unhappy Civic owners

You didnt see my reply the other day about the flappy rubber bits did you?

Your usual reply about you and your imaginary friends I see "me and my friends blah blah" .....

Not all civics will be the same, probably a huge batch of inferior parts were used I would imagine.

your not saying that what I said is wrong

Facts are Facts Luv there are some cars that Have issues but only some
all manufacturers are in the same boat (Including Honda) just that Honda
generally have less issues and those people that do have issues
just can't see how good the car actually is beacuse of the issues

anyway if you want to see pictures of cars with perfect paintwork
just let me know and I will post a few more Photos of our car and my friends cars if you insist Mrs (imaginary indeed Humphhh)
