Translucent silicone sheeting ??

I'm getting my type-s gt next week and don't want my fogs to get gooshed.

Just been looking for silicone sheeting that may provide good protection for the weak foglights.

Altec - Laboratory, Translucent (Talc Free)

This would be even better if it had one side with adhesive coating.

You've got me worried now.... I've just bought (am waiting for delivery ) a Civic Type S 'GT', etc. etc. and am not looking forward to replacing foglights constantly (especially not at those prices).

Anyone know where I can buy a film kit to protect it please??

Btw I am new, so let me know if I muck up posting anywhere along the way .

Regards,
Tom

I'm also going to ask the dealer when I pick it up, about this problem.

It's been said before, but do contact Honda UK (01753 590760) and kick up a stink - I did and they replaced mine free of charge. Tell them you know lots cases and quote this thread. Also, hassle your dealer.

Good luck!

I had the same issue. I can not say for sure, but I was driving the highway, around 120km/h and i heard something like a stone hits the windscreen, I did what I usually do when I notice a stone hit, I got a small hearthattack and examine the screen. Since it was no harm to see, I was happy and parked the car. The next morning I found it with the very same damage what You have on the attached pic. I guess there must be some magic aerodinamic wind which collects all the small stuff flying in the front of the civic and focus it against the foglamp... rip

I'm trying to replace my front fog light, but am encountering a problem.

Can someone who has done it tell me what length of extension I need for the 10mm socket, as I don't seem to be able to locate the bolt/screw head when I feed it through the holes in the base of the bumper.

There also isn't much clearance to feed a long extension up through the holes - do I need to jack up the front of the car as if I was going to change the front tyre or is it possible to undo the bolt with the car sitting on the ground?

Thanks in Advance.

Hi, I have owned Civic 1.8 EX for 14 months during which time TWO foglamps (both curb-side) have broken. I am quite frankly appalled as the material is clearly not up to the task. It is probably a consequence of making the lamps triangulated to mimic the rear exhausts - circular lenses more evenly distrubute impact forces, whilst a triangular piece of glass will not - resulting in breaking. I have not rushed to replace entire lamp as the last one cost me £173 inc labour - as I was told that they don't do replacement lenses. I intend to purchase covers but have yet to locate anyone that sells them. I see that you have covers by "grays" - could you confirm how to obtain them? - once I obtain them I shall book car in for repair, but am considering insisting that thay do so under warranty, and that I get a refund for previous replacement as not fit for purpose under Sale of Goods Act. You can send a nice message to grey52 on this forum who makes them. Link here.

They are very good and I am not aware of anyone who fitted them having problems with broken lights.

I've been reading on the "smashed fog light" thread/poll. Seems even now after all the cases of fog lights being damaged, most people are still paying to have them repaired.

I was just wondering how many people have had success getting them done under warranty and if, from discussion with their dealers, Honda are starting to realise this is a design problem.

Just to follow up my case of smashed lamp, had it replaced on warranty.
Didn't even have to put up a fight - i had to take it in for accessory installations and just mentioned the light and said "I didn't even find a hit mark so I'm wondering if it is a defect". They didn't install it right away (did not have the spare part then *surprise*, I had called about this weeks earlier and they said they will order the part) but had it replaced later. Was actually surprised when picking up the car when told that "dunno, I guess it goes to the warranty as the part was ordered as a warranty part".
I could write a tv movie plot about the installation of the accessories that I paid for already in the first place but ... Basically it's off topic on this thread but had to take it in 4 times to get all things sorted out. Sort of mixed feelings about the dealer

I have used "Fablon" Sticky back plastic sheet to protect the foglights.

It is a reasonably thick clear film which looks strong enough to protect from stone impacts. Even if it doesn't work it will hold the glass in place if it breaks.

It is virtually invisible when installed , has been on for over a 1000 miles and shows no sign of peeling off.

I bought a roll at B&Q for @ £4. There is probably enough on the roll to protect at least 100 cars !

I have just found my offside fog light smashed-found it when I was washing car and caused hole in it when ! rubbed cleaning mitt through it. I did'nt hear/feel anything hit it and there are know marks on bodywork around the lens.I also think it is stress related and could have happened if it got too hot when I had them switched on the other night -incidently looking at damage it is completely shattered all over surface ,as the lens was a very tight in its mount and did'nt allow for heat expansion .Am going up to dealer today and put in claim!.

Can the stuff take the heat when the fog lights have been used?

Phil.
