I was chatting with my dealer and we compared a second hand foglight with mine and the glass by comparison appears far thinner, maybe Honda has run out of the old type and is using a new one???

1000 miles of hard riding on pot-holed roads and motorways, touch wood, not a mark.

I have been following this topic with great interest as I am soon to take delivery of a new Civic. Does anyone have a contact with Honda to find out if these lamps have now been modified? My impression is that most of the breakages were on pre-2007 cars.

had my offside foglight replaced under warranty (very understanding dealer) but did not replace bulb! He has replaced 2 nearside and 4 offside lights for other owners,so there must be some design/manufacturing fault - he puts it down to the triangular shape.Never the less am pleased he is on my side!!

Did you know that airplanes first had square windows, they kept cracking, this is why they are now not perfectly square but rounded. This a true story!
So why did Honda create sharp edges in their spotlight design?

I can only recommend all and one to contact gray52 before the lights get smashed, send him25 quid or thereabouts and enjoy less harassment - he can offer protection (and he's not a member of the mob and he didn't threaten me to write this!!)

I have the contact for someone that sells our foglights for a very cheap price. Just bought 2 pairs for £120 including postage.
If there's anyone interested, let me know and I forward his contact.

All these civic-drivers who all the same problem and cost...

Is there nothing we can do about it? Contact Honda or something like that?

They maybe refund? Warranty?

You can buy some of Gray52s fog light covers.
But that would be at your cost, not Honda´s.

I think as the problem is so huge it is a matter Honda should be addressing as with the handbrake. I know a smashed fog light isnt a serious problem but when we have paid to have fog lights fitted as an extra why should people pay to replace them just because Honda have fitted sub standard parts AGAIN !!!

I've a near side fog for sale in the "for sale" section if anyones interested. I made my own covers from perspex, and glued one on to the broken foglight until I got a new one. Its been on for 17000 miles, isn't sealed and still works.

Is this fault covered by warranty??!!
As we can see this is not an isolated issue and it looks like is caused by a bad expansion due to heat from the bulb.

Yeah. It's clearly a matter of a faulty material or design issue. They all break in the same way.

Civic smashed fog lamps

Purchased my civic in June 2006. After 3 weeks noticed cracked fog lamp glass on passenger side. Spoke to dealer and he said it was just bad luck probably caused by stone chip. Dec 07 noticed other one is now cracked. Spoke to dealer again and he said same thing and that he was not aware of any problems with fog lamps and that internet forums were used by people who like to complain!!! Taking car in on Friday for brake pads replacement so they will look at fog lamps. My husband and I have been driving for nearly thirty years and have been lucky enough to have owned many different cars and have NEVER had a fog lamp crack.
