So far I've been lucky and - I never use them anyway.

It would be interesting to know how many of the shattered lenses are on cars that actually use the foglights (or not).

That may bring a heat issue to light (not avoiding the pun)

Hi,I am pleased I don't have to deal with your dealer! Why don't you try elsewhere!,and why are you having brake pads replaced.Coming back to foglamp, my dealer just put it down to bad design/triangular shape-nothing about bad luck, also I find it very useful to share info on this site and should be applauded for its existence

Hi,

My first fog lamp cracked just before Christmas. The outside ambient temp was -5 to -6, excl wind chill.

The fog lamps had been used on one part of the journey, not shattered before the start (or return from the previous trip) but shattered when arriving home.

I am convinced this is a heat issue when the lamps are being used, but like many others, have paid for a replacement, thankfully not at the cost others have been quoted here. My dealer suggested it is 0.2 hours labour, so if others are quoting a full hour, challenge it.

Thanks for reply. Having brake pads renewed as were quite worn at last service (11,875 miles) and now at nearly 20,000 miles they are a bit noisy

Just been offered 10 pairs fogs for £400 with postage. I bought 2 pairs a while ago and don't need them (for now). I think it's an excellent deal, isn't it ?

Anyone interested, let me know. (They are not mine)

Drivers side Fog Light Smashed

All, I cant believe this, its so easy to put this down to a stone chip, and in fairness I'd have gone along with this until I read this forum, I too have had this happen with the same cracking pattern and never noticed a stone chip. This is all too much of a coincidence! I was quoted around the 120.00 mark for this job to be done, very annoying that I'm going to be out of pocket if indeed this is a design fault

Just had the opposite side smash, going to the stealer tomorrow to complain and try to get this under warranty - too much of a co-incidence to have the first one, then the second one, smash within weeks with no obvious impact.

I haven't, and I don't remember seeing any other reports of breakages with the covers.

I hope Sod or Murphy aren't reading this

I ask because someone posted that they thought the breakages might be heat related.
It does look like it isnt as you suspected

Robbo,

I'm convinced this is heat related.

might have something to do with heat dissipation when they are fitted.

mine definitely went due to heat yesterday.

keeping the fog lamp sealed (with the ideal hondarob fix of scissors and tape) for examination.

Most of the pictures posted just don't look like stone damage to me, it would be helpful to see a picture of a broken foglight which is known to have been caused by a stone.

Just looking at the pictures, most look to me like vibration, resonance, or flexing shook them to bits, - all the heavy damage round the edges. It seems important that they are soft-mounted, not rigid in the bumper.

I guess a vandal's boot would cause that sort of damage, any glass on the ground ?.

Not sure about heat, I would have thought that foglights are mostly not used. Of course, if they break during the rare time they are in use, then yes.
