I would love to, but the Civic upgrade fund is a bit meagre at the moment

They are fog lights (technically)

The short range & wide angle beam gives them away.

If they were driving lights they would only work when the headlights were on main beam.

As it is, the front fogs work with either sidelights or dipped beam (or main beam - but if it is genuinely poor enough visibility to need the front fogs on, then putting your headlights on to main beam would be counter productive)

Could be vibration but my ns lens shattered just as I needed to use them in fog. perhaps heat related or the fact that I had beeen driving on a road covered in those atrocious granite chippings.

Believe after reading this forum that too many occurrences may mean some kind of fault or failure and that lights should have some perspex protective cover on them to prevent breaking as they are not recessed enough from location on front lower valance.

Have a look here. Front Fog Light

Sorry if this has been covered. Where is the best place to buy new fog lights. There was a link to ebay which is now no more. There are Type R fogs, but these are £160. I found another on the web, but they just had passanger side, and still £118 I think. Can not believe they cost any more than a fiver to produce.

Surely Honda should see the need for a more rugid light. The fact it is the worst shape possible for stress and being quite large, means it needs to be something tougher than standard - it is not rocket science.

I do alot of motorway driving and never had a spotlight smash on my previuos car (Peugeot 306). I have found a few small chips on my spotlights already and the cars only 5 months old. I cant really see them lasting that long as the whole light unit looks pretty delicate or should I say weak! I would complain to Honda if they do smash as they should be better made!

Yes they still are, but Gaz said a while back on here that he could beat ebay prices for Civinfo members.

I suppose it's because they don't have to pay ebay and paypal fees if we buy direct.

No problem, I've just posted on there too with the link I posted on here.

Are you going to fit it yourself, it is quite easy.

Here's a quick explanation of how to do it. Changing a smashed front fog!!

I hope that Honda have asked for responsibilities to the supplier of the part.
This part must be changed under warranty without any cost for customer, as they are doing.

Aside to the above...........

As an aside to my posting above, how come Honda make the (less vulnerable) headlights and trophy cabinet out of polycarbonate but then decide to hang a pair of fog lights near to the ground, more vulnerable to flying stones and then someone in the design team says "Let's make the fog lights with glass lenses", astoundingly, others in the room obviously thought this was a great idea ! They then went and had a cup of tea (Darjeeling no doubt, made affordable by the extra revenue stream of replacement fog lights !).

I've just recieved and fitted some fog light protectors from Gray52 after reading about all of the damaged lights.

They are so easy to fit and look really good too - I would recommend everyone to get a set of these very practical covers.
