I had a front fog smash in an MG ZS. I also found that in over 5 years of owning it I had used the front fogs about four times. I also don't find them very effective.

On that basis I decided to stick to the less attractive but more practical and cheap plastic inserts.

Maybe someone will start selling easy fit false foggies?

There is something seriously wrong here. Too many are having smashed fogs, there has got to be a design fault.

I've rang Honda (without any joy) and I sent a letter in the post yesterday and await their response. Quite a few owners seem to be contacting Honda but the more the better to make them realise there must be a problem.

Had my fog light done this afternoon they originally quoted £120 and tried charging me £157 to which I told them no chance!!!

The good news was that HUK only received my letter this morning and were straight on the phone to my dealer asking their opinion as to whether or not they thought there was a fault. They said that it was smashed and so could have been an accident or could be a fault with the fog, so couldn't comment.

The dealer told me I will here from them, but just to keep on at them if I don't get a result, so you never know!!!

I had just finished the latest survey, saying how great my car was and completely fault free......... and went out to find foglight in bits! aaarrrgghh.
And then I remembered. This morning a VW Toe-rag (Tuareg or something) driven obviously by someone a bit 'small' couldn't stand being passed by the wee Civic. Nothing would do but he HAD to pass me at about 100mph and pulled in in front of me. I remembered thinking, silly B*****d glad I'm not paying his fuel bill. Then I heard a 'ping' checked the windscreen and thought nothing more about it. This was obviously my foglight evening up the financial score. I'm not so smug now! I don't think I'll replace it until a set of covers are purchased. (off to look for thread now).
Only this morning I was singing the praises of opting out of the Company Car scheme to buy the Civic, citing, so long as its reliable, I'll make in the long run. Looks like I could be running a while!
Totally p****d off!

I'm probably tempting fate but my fogs don't sound like glass when I tap them.

Have they recently changed the lens material?

If mine ever do go then I'm getting blanks put in, never use them anyway.

I was informed by Honda C/S that the lenses where first made from plastic but because they had a problem with condensation they changed to glass ones Address Car Customer Relations Dept Honda UK

I've just had new one fitted and its glass and guess what.......................
condensation in it!!!

I spoke with the dealer who said put them on for a bit so that the heat clears it, but why is this happening in the 1st place, I thought they were a sealed unit? Anyway I've left my fogs on tonight on the drive and yes the worst has cleared, but if the unit isn't sealed then it will surely come back. Also why was there never any condensation with the factory fit ones???

On another note (rant, rant) I had a letter back from HUK saying that they had spoke with the dealer who apparently said that my fog was smashed by impact damage so HUK aren't prepared to cover the cost. However, when I spoke with the dealer, they said that they told HUK that it couldn't be proven by observation whether the damage was due to impact or fault!!! Somebody is telling porkies!!! Anyway 2nd letter already prepared to HUK and in the post tomorrow!!!

Surley it's about how they are made (sealed, vented or whatever) that prevents condensation, not if they are polycarb or glass?

Following 2nd letter to HUK, they confirmed to me that the dealer had said smashed fog was due to impact damage (like they could really tell!!!). Even so still think its poor design/weak glass for so many to be smashed so quickly and so easily.

Any way some kind of result in that HUK have agreed to cover 50% of the cost as a gesture of goodwill (hence £60) which keeps me reasonably happy as they say they can only go off what the dealer has reported in their findings. Guess it was worth 1/2 hour of my time and two 1st class stamps!!!

Got the covers on (thanks to gray52) so hopefully that will be the end of it and I can carry on enjoying my Type R!!!

I parked next to a "56" Civic today with a smashed fog light, the top corner was all shattered just like most of the pictures on this forum.

Called my Honda Dealer in Enfield, London but told me it's just bad luck and they have not heard anything from Honda HO. Someone mentioned which? I might give them a call as well as I am a member. Certainly not going to spend another £140 (self fit!) until I hear of a remedy.

They (honda UK) are well awaer of this problem, the fog lamp replacements take 2 minutes to replace, 1 * 10mm screw and there off, don't pay for these make them pay and just for your information two replacements come to £199.00 inclusive, anyone paying more is being ripped off.

to make you all feel abit better, skodas are also suffering with smashed fog lights. my uncle was told that 3 skodas in his dealers were waiting for fog light replacement, so he opted to buy the model without fog lights as standard!! so your not alone.

Now that's weird. The policy at Honda Norway seems to be different than in the UK.. Here they were changed on guarantee, but over there they have just denied that it is a problem...

I really thought a worldwide company should have the same customer support/service or guarantee conditions in every single country.
