mine were round and recessed on an old shape megane (51 plate) and that got smashed three times, I gave up replacing it after a while, still got through the MOT's though, obviously didn't use them though, and the stork didn't work, company car, couldn't be bothered

Model of Civic

Tried to check if all the broken fog lights are on a certain model e.g. diesel but could not tell from the post's. Could it be that it is only affecting a particular model?

Quick Google search and this came up:
http://forums.clubrsx.com/showthread.php?t=94484

Interestingly this is a forum for American Honda owners.

uuuhh, just noticed I made it to magic rear seat status.

I wonder if I can get my £166 back that it cost to replace mine I guess it is too late as I don't have the old one. I won't make that mistake again, as there was no evidence that a stone caused it and they are not really in a position where they are easily bumped into.

so, any luck, anyone, trying to claim it on warranty? mine is broken too . i did not get to see the crack pattern. i did not notice it myself in the first place, the dealer pointed it to me when the car was in for service; after it has been serviced; so all the glass debris were already removed by the garage. i suppose there is no way now to prove whether it was or was not a stone damage. and claiming it on warranty, that will only be possible if honda does recognise that there is a design flaw, or is it? the dealer has ordered a new lamp for me, and it's going to cost 2400 dkk all together (divide by ten to get the price in pounds). meanwhile i am driving with some clear plastic fixed with silver tape ... told him i will wait with replacing the light for now... kinda hurts to give away the money originally intended for winter tires, for a stupid piece of plastic - which will possibly break again some time soon?..

taa, welcome back! Hope all has been well with you. Very sorry to hear about the fog lights - I shall start a thread in a second so we can try to register how many have broken, and under what circumstances.

Thanks Pottsy, yes all is well... apart from that light... but i am still enjoying the car greatly. As for the light, even if it was stone damage... wouldn't one expect those lights to have to be more robust?.. ah well.

If this is a design 'feature', perhaps some of that sticky stuff, that is used to protect your windows from car jackers could be used. I imaginge that if applied to the outside of the Fog lamp, then it would help prevent any damage from stones etc.

Gotta be better than £100 every few months.

I've already covered our new ones in clear plastic sticky back.
That wont stop cracking if there is a design fautlt though.

Absolutely, but would help with any claim against Honda.

Any do-it yourself shop will stock it.
a roll of clear plastic sheet ( paper backed) the backing is like a chess board 1" squares printed on it. very cheap £2.00 a roll if that.
Cut out the shape peal it off stick in place job done.
It has stayed on now for three weeks no probs

They are glass PTR. One good thing, although I can see a negative, is that the glass is actually bonded to a silicone type resin round the side of the light, so if it breaks it does not all fall out, the negative, the large piece left on mine rattled around and eventually was sticking out of the front of the car, at probably 45 degrees to where it should have been, if someone had walked past the car closely they could have damaged themselves, I guess the owner would be liable for that one. I fixed mine with brown parcel tape, looked well classy, like Jack Duckworths glasses (sorry UK reference).

Stupid question, but does anyone posting on this thread use their foglights regularly? Are we seeing a problem with poor heat dispersion after they have been turned off?

Never actually used mine yet (which makes it all the more frustrating), so it can't be in my case

yes that's similar to what my brother has suggested... that if switched on when the car (and glass) is cold, and the lamp gives a lot of heat, then the glass might crack... but i also never used mine! well played with turning them on and off the first evening when i got the car 6 months ago, but then never again. and in any case, it should be something for which the manufacturer should have provided, the possible tepmerature gradients.
