Adaptive front headlights?
My partner was chatting to a bloke yesterday who claims to have a civic (no-one has seen this civic and he didnt appear to know much about them!) anyway he said his has adaptive front headlights (ie the ones that turn with the car to light around corners) is this true?
I looked though all the brochures last night and on the net today but thought the best thing to do is ask you lovely owners on here! He said he has the ES. |

False and half true.
False : The civic did not have the front headlight moving when it turns like the Citroen or Bmw. Half true : The Civic with Hid lights (Xenon) have an automatic system wich adapt the height of the beam to the load of the car and road conditions (it is adaptative in this way) it surprise me a lot becaus the first time I went up a hill at night the light didnt beam at the sky but still at the road... I was wondering and asking myself if the bulbs where loose ... Call the dealer next day As far as I know it is a mandatory system on cars with Hid lights. |

The EX has Auto Lights, not the ES.
The self-levelling feature of the HID lights will adapt to changes in the cars suspension heights. Examples of this are when accelerating or braking, the systems responses are designed to keep the lights level with the plane of the road. It also compensates for a heavy load over the rear axle, by directing the beam downwards slightly. It does not adapt to the car being on a hill for example. It doesn't know it's on a hill, the system only analyses the cars attitude about the lateral axis by measuring the front and rear suspension travel. In comparing the two values it can then make a decision and adjust the aiming either up or down. Last edited by ukpm; 20th April 2007 at 12:09. Reason: technical error |

I wish the Civic did have the adaptive headlights that point round bends.
This is the first car I've had with HID headlights and I find that on unlit country roads at night its sometimes difficult to see the curb on tight bends. I think that the beam pattern is so precise that the normal sideways scatter that I'm used to is not present with the HIDs. I know I'm moaning a bit but I also find that the forwards pattern is arguably a bit too precise as well, its a fantastic white beam up to the line, but then further on than this is just black. I do think my beam is set too low and I intend to take it back to the dealer for a check when I get the chance. |
