Number of stop lights

Just wondering: beside the "third" stop light integrated in the spoiler, the 5 door Civic does actually have 4 stop lights: right next to the indicators and two larger ones on the trunk. Now I saw a 3 door Type R stopping, and only the most outside stop lights came on, not the lights on the trunk. Is it really true that the 3 door models have less stop lights than the 5 door models That would be quite redicilous...

Interesting, have you compared both models during the day? Or is it possible at night the rear lights/brake lights 'double up'?

I've seen several 5 door models the last months, all of them having four stop lights. A week ago I saw the Type R for the first time and I'm absolutely sure it had only two stop lights (beside the spoiler light). Because I saw this Type R at daylight, I don't how many tail lights it has. I do know that the 5 door model has four as well...

I've sold the mystery I guess: the black Type R has a complete different light set up than the blue 5 door. I try to explain with these two photos. As you can see, the Type R has it fog lights further on the outside of the rear end. Because European regulations forbid to mount your fog light directly next to the stop light, the Type R only has stop lights right next to the indicator. Between this stop light and the fog light there is the second lense, which contains a second tail light (I hope). I hope you'll understand

okay. But it was more about the position of the fog light on the 3 door compared to the 5 door

good spot Wouter!

so the 5 door fog light has moved to the side cluster on the R (to avoid a big red light on the black middle section)

And because it's moved to the cluster, it would be right next to the cluster mounted brake light (in the 5 door version) - which is not allowed.

So they've removed the brake light from the cluster, leaving just the one next to the indicator

Clever!

That's what I mean! My English vocabulaire is a bit limited because it's not my native language, so I couldn't write it down as clear as you did. But it's still odd that the Type R has less stop lights than the 5 door, just to make the rear end look different . By the way: what is the correct word for the lights that come on when you hit the brakes? I have read stop light, stop lamps, brake lights ???

It's brakelights. Type-R's never stop, they only sometimes brake

What color was the Type-R you saw ? Silver ?
Next time I fly through Leidschendam, I'll try to brake some more so you can check out the lights
I would like to get out and see for myself, but it's kinda hard to keep braking and getting out at the same time.

I was familiair with the Dutch word . I saw a red Type R, but I think he was visiting our English neighbours. Try parking in front of a glass surface, so you can check your rear lights.

And in case anyone was wondering, the 3 door Type S has the same arrangement of lights as the 5 door. (I checked today by looking at the reflection in a window as suggested.)

Now we have sorted the 5 door, the Type R and the Type S! Next: the 4 door! This car has four red circles as rear lights. The outside ones contain the tail light and stop light (5W/21W combined), the inside one contains the foglight. I've seen a picture of a Japanese 4 door, and that car had also tail lights in the inside circle. Looked really great, and I think it is very simple to install on Euro-models, even when combined with the foglight (by also using a 5W/21W bulb). Has anyone tried this modification yet?

Does anyone not think that the Type R with its teeny tiny little brake lights....well it is not really a good idea is it.

Does anyone remember the first Audi A4 that had tail lights that were just tiny little squares that lit up at night but were even smaller than those used on the first Pug 205's?

Needless to say it was considered far too small an amount of light to have on a car so large and in the facelift a couple of years later they introduced new lights that were more visible.

In the 5 door Civic the two brake / tail lights on the tailgate (as opposed to the ickle ones next to the indicators) are very helpful in allowing people to actually know you are braking.

I do not think the Type R is very good in this respect.

I do remember the A4 Mk I! Beautiful car with very caracteristic tail lights! They were not much bigger than the 205 ones indeed. But the Audi light were much brighter than the Pugs. I also agree that it is a dumb move from Honda to give a car very small stop lights only to make it look different from other models.

Possibly, but maybe they're brighter?

Like I said, the Type-R is so fast nobody will ever be close enough behind it to actually see the brakelights. And if they would be close enough, when that corner comes up, the Type-R doesn't have to brake.

But then again, maybe the lights are brighter. And perhaps the 3rd-brakelight is bigger too.
Really have to find a big window and park in front to check out my lights. Or wait until I meet a fellow CTR owner round these parts. I still seem to be the only one. I like exclusive cars but I would be nice to see one in motion on the outside once and a while.
