If you have the plastic 'bumps' under the lights, you have Aliens (lurking, just waiting for the right moment to pounce...)

If you have Aliens, you have Xenons

To double check:

get someone to sit in the car with the ignition on.
Turn on the lights to dipped beam

Now. Walk round to the front of the car and kneel down by the number plate, facing the car

Tell the person in the driver seat to pull (and hold) the windscreen wash stalk.

The wiper will move, and jets will hit the windscreen - don't worry, you shouldn't get wet (from them )

After a few seconds, the Aliens will pop out from behind their plastic covers

They will then spray the headlights with water.

You can now conclude that you do indeed have Aliens, and therefore Xenons.

All you need now is a towel

Please note - you obviously do not have to get wet to run this experiment, but it's a good laugh and great for making people jump

Perhaps he/she should bring some soap with them beforehand .. *sorry*

Standard on Sport and EX models I think!

Xenon lights are standard on all EX and Sport models and so they both have the headlight washers.

rmh999 - They are used automatically when you have the Xenons switched on and use the windscreen washer.

WoolyCiv - can you confirm if the headlight washers are activated everytime you use the windscreen washer when the HID lights are on. I thought I read on another forum that on the Golf the headlight washers wash every fifth time you wash the windscreen and I wonder if the Civic operates in a similar way.

Speaking of washers, I've had my Civic since the 8th May 2006 and have still never opened my bonnet or had to fill the washer fluid!!! Is the washer fluid tank the same size as the fuel tank???

Just to correct you a bit. EX and Sport have HIDs and therefore washers as standard in the UK. However here in Finland only EXs have HIDs. Sport level cars have halogen lamps AND washers here. I suspect the same is true for all LHD cars in Europe. Civic-babe have you tested your washers yet? If so, did you get wet, as TTDegs suggested?

Hi,

Here in Hungary we have three levels of Civic: Comfort, Sport and Executive. I have 1.8 Executive which has the most gauge including xenon, dual A/C and panorama roof. The only extras you can order over this level is leather and navi. Xenon is not orderable only with Executive pack.
Xenon is a very good thing, I think. It gives whiter, lighter, wider area and more contrast. And of course a headlight washer with 6.5 liters of washer tank.

are you serious, i had to pay a 1000 euros extra to get xenon, by the way that's the price in Holland, but still it cost me 33 % more money than it did you

the washers on my clio 182 operate every time as long as your headlights are on you just need to keep the screen washer stalk pulled back for 2 seconds then they activate, i would think the civic will be the same sort of set up

You need to hold the stalk down a little longer than usual for the nozzles to activate. If its dark you'll be able to see the beam split as the water hits the lights.

I had the Xenons installed before I took the car. I paid about 675€ for the set. Normally they are imported with normal halogen bulbs so headlamp washers are not installed.
I had read sometime ago that in the U.K. washers are compulsory when Xenons are installed. Why? Don't tell me that they are for cooling. Can it be to prevent possible dazzling of the oncoming drivers' eyes due to dirt layer on the polycarbonate cover? Or is the wavelenth of the Xenons shorter than halogens, so their lights can penetrate less through a translucent medium (like dry dirt on headlamps)?

Korkut Varol (what does that mean, BTW ), as far as I know, washers are compulsory on Xenon / HID equipped cars as the bulbs generate far less heat than halogens- As I heard it, and I may be wrong, the reason is that washers eliminate snow (?) and possibly other crud which would normally be melted by the heat of standard halogens...

All Xenon-equipped cars in Lux (and on the Continent as fas as I know) have washers...
