Have you got Xenon Lights?
Hi,
I actually wondered who had Xenon Lights fitted to their Civic? Are they really that much better then ordinary lights? I had the option when I ordered my Civic at an extra cost of 750 Euros (about 500£), and thought I won't bother. |

My ES hasn't got them. I don't know why the ES hasn't, the sport (below) and the EX(above) both have xenon lights. I don't know why it missed the ES! To be honest, I must have misread the specs, becasue until I picked the car up, I thought the ES did come with the lights.
I am happy with the lights I have got, looks ok from front when on, and is perfectly adequate for lighting the way. Not that i don't prefer the xenons, but I'm satisfied with halogens. |

Got mine as standard on the EX, but to be honest I would have paid extra for them, maybe not that much, its a far nicer light they give off, my Laguna had them, but the Golf I had didn't. I was not keen about the yellowy tint on the Golf. Which reminds me I need to replace the main beam lights with the blue Phillips or Osram, the yellow glow next to the Xenon is pants.

HID are fitted as standard on the Sport and EX. They give better illumination to the kerbs and road signs and have a brighter, whiter light. They claim to give around 30% better range but this would only be noticeable on dark roads where they would be excellent. For general town driving I haven't found much difference although other people may see me better. They give good range on unlit motorways and would pick out a straying animal at a greater distance.

I was told by my car dealer I could always have them fitted at a later date if I wanted, not sure if I will, as I read up that those Xenon Lights are a cold light.
As I live and work in Bavaria, and we do get a lot of snow here during the winter, I thought a cold (Xenon)light is not much good to me. As the snow doesn't clear of as it does with Halogen lights. Secondly 500£ is a lot of money, and I get for that much money a lot of accessories which I already ordered |

I do not think they are a cold light, I am sure I have seen the residue left from headlamp washers steaming when playing with them.

Just tried it, the lens does get warm, that was after 2 minutes or so, I guess in the winter when the outside is cooler the effect might be more noticeable.

not sure what the rules are in germany but in the UK I would guess it would be quite expensive to retro fit the HID/Xenon lights as by law in the UK you need headlight washers (which you only get as standard on the EX and Sport in the UK) plus automatic headlamp height control (which I have read somewhere entails attaching some sensors to one/some of the axles or something). Rules may well be different in germany, what with us all being in the EU. |

I think I do remember that they got to have the headlight washers. And to be honest I'm just glad I got the car, who cares what lights I have, as long as I can see at nights |

... and greetings to Germany. Have been a few times mainly on car related adventures. Years ago a friend of mine was looking for a BMW M3 (the original) and we flew into Munich (because it was a cheap) and drove to Frankfurt !! Not very clever but a good chance to blast down the autobahns in our rental BMW 3 series. I then bought a Porsche 911 (993) Carrera 4 a couple of years back from a Porsche dealer just south of Munich and drove it back to the UK stopping in Dusseldorf for a night and then most recently my friend (the same one who now lives in Geneva) and I went to Stuttgart to visit the Porsche Musuem (not that great).

Got them on my EX and it's the first car I've had with them fitted. They certainly are good on dark country roads. The lights give off a blue/white light when iluminated and when you go on main beam, because of the mains being halogen, there's a yellowing effect. I can remember thinking when halogen first started to get popular years ago, how white they were in comparison to the tungsten filament bulbs. How things move on.......
I was in Munich last Wednesday civic-babe, in Solln. I'm trying to ensure I get a visit back down there for the Oktoberfest! |

Driving from Munich to Frankfurt up the A3 is a nightmare, a suppose the same as the M25 or M4.. Duesseldorf is great, I love that city, great for shopping The good old Autobahns in Germany aren't what they used to be, much more speed restrictions now |

See here for explanation of colour temperature: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Color_temperature A similar comparison would be that between domestic lights: compare the colour given off by a flourescent tube with a tungsten bulb. |

But as many people before me, ordinary headlights can't be that bad, and let me say one thing, after my ****** Ford Fa the lights on the Civic are brilliant, great, fantastic and I should be happy with what I got. I was curious on the xenon lights, whether it was better getting them or not I think I shall find out soon enough.. |
