Size of Fog light

I know this is an unusual request, but what are the measurements of the fog light?

I am going to try the self adhesive stone resistant film and want to order some before my new Type S GT arrives, so I can prevent fog light shattering from day one.

Give Gray52 a shout. Quite a lot of us have his solution fitted. Probably more resistant to damage than a film of plastic.
Here's the thread: fog light covers made & fitted

The American forum recommends Lamin-X which is available in this country.

Lamin-X.co.uk - Vehicle light tinting protection and paint protection films

I would like to try this out as I'm not happy with Gray52's attachment method.

Anyone got the fog light size?

Whats wrong with the attachment? They are VERY secure and very easy to remove too when its time to clean them. There is no chance of them coming off....HONEST!!

If you look under my thread in Lights- DIY Fog Light covers. there are some pics of my own fit. When you ask for size, do you mean the actual template or the dimensions of the material to make them. I still have my template somewhere.

All I need to know is, if I bought a sheet 4" by 8" for each of the foglights, would it be sufficient to cut out a cover?

Absolute minimum size you need is 8" by 5 1/4" for each light which gives you little margin for error. Hope this helps.

Is melting point of 300F enough? Isn't there a reason why foglights are glass, instead of headlights being plastic?

Hmmm, should be. How often you planning to use them like? Your not one of these people who drives around with their fogs on cause they think it 'looks good' are ya?

I'm one of these people who get annoyed by one drives around with their fogs on.
wondering if there is a reason for foglights made of glass. Plastic would be cheaper, wouldn't it?

You would think so. I know that a few manufactures have started using glass for both the head, side and fog lights.

But based on experiance, Plastic aint much better than glass. I had to replace my side lights in my Mini 3 times, they were plastic and very tough but smashed 3 times and they were a bugger to fix as they were inside the bumper. infact they were cracked when i sold my car.

I think the fog protectors or te film (which is my choice) will just have to do.

Do you think manufacturers could devise a device that gives the driver an electric shock if he/she puts on fog lights when there is no fog?
I advocate the same for mobile phone use and non wearing of seatbelts
Some drivers would get three shocks straight away!!

If it was possible to design a fog-sensor surely auto-fog lights would be more sensible than the chock approach.

Not as much fun though...
