replacement side light but not a 501

Ive gone and got the 501 led for the sidelights

had some problems with the lights flickering and so this added to my thoughts also that i have the replaced the dipped beam lights with the philips extreme lights - and the white led's do look a bit out of place with less white dipped beams

I was wondering if anyone has an ideas about replacement bulbs for the sideslights that are not led's but simply better whiter bulb like the philips replacement ones ....???

Mo

I looked ages for some and could'nt find any. Decided I quote liked the look of the 501 LEDs with my philips extreme in the end so stuck with them.

The only ones I came across were still really yellow (compared to the x-tremes)

If you find some, let me know!

I've got the Philips Blue Vision sidelight bulbs - got them free with some upgraded bulbs for my last car, and kept hold of them.

Definitely whiter than the standard yellow look ones, but not as white as an LED, so might be what you're looking for. They also match quite well with the Philips Vision Plus +50% bulbs that I've fitted for both main & dip beam.

I'll try and take a photo later once it's dark, although lights are a bit difficult to capture accurately.

Here's a link to the powerbulbs website.

Ok, here are some photos of my blue vision sidelights & the vision plus dipped beam, and the original foglight bulbs for comparison. I tweaked the photos a little to give an accurate representation (on my monitor at least ) of the colour - not pure white, very slight tinge of yellow, but not nearly as yellow as the original bulbs.

MoOriginal - the bulbs you found look pretty similar to the free ones I got this time round, when I ordered the Vision Plus bulbs for the Civic - I did try them but although the colour was ok, they weren't very bright - I think the blue coating was too blue/thick, which stopped some of the light. The Philips blue vision ones are only lightly blue tinted.

Hope this helps.

Is the top photo just with your side lights on? If its they are really bright - could you confirm which bulbs these are please - I might change over to them myself.
Got some pictures of mine somewhere - I'll upload them when I get a chance.

Yes, the first photo is just sidelights, although in reality they don't look as bright as they do in the photo. The colour is pretty accurate though.

My camera held the shutter open a bit too long (because it was dark), which has meant the lights look much brighter. Ironically, the bottom photo (sides & fogs), shows the sidelights a bit better as the exposure has been a little shorter.

The sidelight bulbs are Philips Blue Vision - Theres a link to them in post #3 above.

Hope that helps.

I also use Philips Extreme +80's as dipped, Vision Plus +50's as main and their Vision Blue (or whatever they are called_ as side lights - its not a perfect match, but pretty close.

Also use the Blues to light the number plate at the rear....

You normally get a free pair at Car Bulbs from Power Bulbs - upgrade xenon car bulbs, headlight bulbs, autobulbs and autolamps from Philips, Osram and GE. Osram Night Breaker, Philips X-Treme Power, Osram Silverstar and more - i can give these guys 10/10 for service as i have had a number of orders from them, all delivered in time, with a free set of Philips Blue W5W's.

The only order that had a delay was for the Extreme's as they couldn’t get them due to production run shortages at Philips.

If you do decide to order dipped and main beams, put them through on separate orders and get yourself 2 x W5W's. Postage, if i recall, is free.

Check you don't need a resistor with each LED sidelight - I'm fairly sure you do. "Fools" the diagnostics into thinking you have a filament style bulb in there instead of a diode
