Thought I'd post my success in changing Dipped, Main and Sidelights on my FN2 CTR GT this morning.
Piece of cake - took no more than 20 minutes start to finish. I chose Osram Nightbreakers for both dipped and main beam and some "freebie" sidelight bulbs, which I'll keep an eye on in terms of brightness/length of service etc. Main+sidelights first (H1's and 501's) easy to get to on both sides - Honda's retaining clip style is new to me, but ingenious as it doesn't require pressure in from both sides of the spring clip to seat it, good news for tight spaces and big sausage fingers like mine! Dipped (H7's) next - Driver's side piece of cake. For the Passenger side, I undid the two 10mm nuts on the battery retaining clamp and unhooked the bottom ends of the rods and swung the clamp out of the way. Slid the battery back as far as it would go. Plenty of room to do the dipped beam bulb now. All tested and working fine. I'll try and get some 50M/100M distance pics of the new bulbs with a 5MP camera and post if anyone is vaguely interested. Why did I go for the Osrams? Well, the long and short of it was price. They came out after the Philips E-xtreme +80%'s and are claimed at having +90% more light at a given distance (50ft or 50m, can't remember) than standard bulbs. Can't wait to test them tonight |

I'd be interested in a few pics. I recently made a half hearted attempt at seeing how accessible the lights were and gave up due to lack of interest. However if I bought the bulbs, then I'd HAVE to fit them.

Cool.
I've just ordered a set of nigtbreaker dipped lights (I'm on a tight budget) which I'll hopefully fit this weekend. If they are good I'll get a set for full beam and some LED's for the side lights. Interesting to see/hear your opinion of these bulbs though. |

Hmph! Tips on getting a decent night shot of bright lights anyone ????
The lights look GREAT! and they are definately brighter than the old ones. Coming from an Audi Quattro with Xenons, the dipped beam on the Civic was quite a come-down, but the uprated H7's have redressed the balance The Main beams are something else! and they are not that cheesy (IMO) blue colour you so often see with the accompanying blue led washer jets.......not that there's anything wrong with these, just personal preference of course So, in a nutshell, they ARE brighter and I feel safer. Money well spent! I feel much happier hooning down a local back road at night with just dipped beam, just like I did in the Audi Will post some pics as long as noone laughs |

I would be really interested in seeing a few different pics of these bulbs fitted cos Im thinking of getting them for my Type R as well.
By the way how much in % terms would u say they have improved over the standard lights and whats the colour like. Is it a crisp white or still yellow? Thanks |

BTW, they are a crisp white with a tiny hint of blue (and I mean tiny) and BOY are they different - used them in the dark and rain tonight and on dipped they are as good as the xenons on my audi. No need for full beam at all, even at 50mph along single track road!
In terms of % difference I'd say the dipped are around 50% better - the white is a more natural non-yellow tinged light and it is certainly much brighter. For the main beam it's hard to tell, very finger in the air, but again, the white is so much more natural whithout any yellow and you can see for miles! The great thing about the uprated dipped beams is that you can concentrate on yer driving instead of pushing and pulling the main beam stick for on coming traffic! I WILL post the pics I've taken - just have to doctor the number plates! <note to self - stick white paper over the number plate next time> |

I need - H1 Osram Night Breaker Upgrade Bulbs with FREE 501's for the headlights and 'parking' lights and - H7 Osram Night Breaker Upgrade Bulbs for the dipped lights. What about the front fogs? Nothing worse than pure white main bulbs and yellow fogs... (Are the fogs difficult to fit, anyone?) |
