'RALLY' ROUTE (Proposed by Veritas)
The Turnpike Inn, the meeting up point, via the A627 down into Saddleworth, through the Saddleworth villages and from there to Stalybridge by the B6175. Stalybridge to Glossop will be on dull main roads, no way to avoid it. In the centre of Glossop we will make a left at the crossroads and join the B6105 for the run up out of Glossop, over the old rail lines and past Torside reservoir. This is scenic twisty and fast in places.
From the B6105 we join the A628 for about a mile before turning off onto the A6024 for the run up to Holme Moss. This is another well known road, fast and open, just beware of the sheep! The photo opportunity is at the summit, big car park opposite the radio mast.
From there we descend toward Holmfirth and then by a short, narrow back road to join the A635.
The pub, The Ford Inn (See below), which do food, has an adequate car park and is on the A635, minutes away.
After lunch, people can either head off toward Holmfirth and Yorkshire, or follow Veritas over Saddleworth Moor back to Saddleworth in the direction of Manchester.

The proposed route revisions mean that we won't be passing through Stalybridge. The bulk of the route is in Yorkshire, with just the loop around the Longendale Reservoirs in Derbyshire. Guess you could argue that Saddleworth is in Greater Manchester, but it was in Yorkshire until the 70's boundary changes.

No need to argue - Wiki states "Saddleworth is a civil parish of the Metropolitan Borough of Oldham in Greater Manchester, England".
Greater Manchester was never part of Lancashire - it stole parts of it to form a Metropolitan county, and was never adopted as a postal county - good old GPO!!
So it's still not Lancashire!!!!

Anyway I always thought the title of the thread was for the origins of the attendees not the location???

OK LNT my hands are up

I think robbo might have been on the wine when he posted that

Its actually "Rishworth" not "Ricksworth" and as you correctly pointed out is in Yorkshire not Lancashire...

Glad you didn't teach me geography robbo

copy and paste can be dangerous

This is where I got the address from:
THE TURNPIKE INN - PUB - Junction 22 M62 Motorway
As you can see, it clearly states Ricksworth.

I might be coming along to this if registration is still open?

Only thing I'm worried about - how many 1.4's will there be if any? Am I going to have to get the Type-R guys to order me food at the pub? Then it might be ready for the time I get there!

Revised route details for the rally after the initial meeting point @ The Turnpike Inn from 10.00 am for 10.30 am

REVISED ROUTE (2):
"From the Saddleworth villages, we take the A635 over Saddleworth Moor to Holmfirth. Out of Holmfirth via the B6106 branching off toward Hade Edge and Dunford bridge, thence to join the A628.
Along the A628 for several miles to Tintwistle. In Tintwistle we take a left onto minor roads to rejoin our original route just before the good bits of the B6105. Then we continue on to Holme Moss, Ford Inn, etc.
This revised route(2) is much more moorland in nature, the only really busy points could be in Saddleworth and Holmfirth, and then not much i hope.
It took me (Veritas) just over an hour and a half to complete the whole route, driving briskly but observing speed limits in urban areas. All times are without photo stops."
This equates to 11.00 am start from The Turnpike Pub.
So please try not to be late.
I suspect most people will arrive at the pub for 10.00 am
If anyone would like my mobile number, please PM me.
I will be glad to oblige

Lewis ......Any idea yet?
I need a decision if possible so I can let the pub know
Cheers

Robbo,

Are you still accepting late participants ? Managed to persuade Mrs PJR that a weekend away would be a good idea. Reckon I could be the furthest travelled member.......

Cheers
