National Meet

Just a thought but what would people think to a national meet? My father in law has a HSV and they had a big meet this year at Rockingham with the touring cars. About 30 turned up. Just wondered if any one felt the same? Either that or a trip to the nurburgring? ( I know in my dreams )

Correct. He's got a HSV GTS VTII. Poor bugger's just had to put a new clutch in it. Cost just over £1000. Ouch!!

When you say NATIONAL, do you mean in the UK?

(There is a world outside the island too?)

My ex- owners club has a national UK meet each year, with 80+ cars turning up
(Including some from aboard )

It's a fantastic idea, but takes a LOT of organising, and can end up costing a fair amount too...

The TT Owners Club did Silverstone this year, and Gaydon (motor museum) for the previous 2 years.
Once you get above about 10-15 owners you really need somewhere which can have a dedicated parking area (hence cost), and to make it worthwhile for people to drive a decent distance then means you need more than just 'meet up for a chat' (great though that is! )

Not sure on the cost for Silverstone, but to hire basically the car paking at Gaydon was circa £1500 for the day.
That meant the public were still allowed in, but had to park in the overflow car park

Cost was subsidised by the owners club too...

But Audi did help out by bringing along their driving experience thing, and then letting us loose in 3.2 TTs round a bunch of cones

Great - no, fantastic! - day
BUT, the commitee basically finish the day knackered, and the next day start planning the event for next year
(partly cos we could never agree on anything )

Hi Snurf79

I would be interested in coming, but as TT has said we have to get a consensus of opinion with regard to cost. Would everybody be prepared to pay for parking charges etc.

I like the idea of the Nurburgring. That's only a 2hr drive. Anything "national" involves boats or ferries or in whatever way crossing the Channel. Maybe in a Clarkson-style amphibian Civic?

Rockingham sounds like a good place as it is central England and only a 20 minute drive from me

Rockingham sounds good. would have to look into it and see what they charge for a track day and when they're on

A meet at the touring cars next year would be good as I go to all of those anyway! If not then if it doesn't clash with anything then I'd try to make it, (although my calendar for next year is already looking pretty full, BTCC and other race meetings mostly.) Saturdays are generally better than Sundays for me.

Definitely interested.
Rockingham is manageable for me.
As you mentioned, just need a date.
I don't have any weekends left for this year, and I think it would be wise to give a couple of months notice, in any event.
Where did Topcat and her meet go last year?
