A bit early in the model life to start with 'special editions'!

An indication they are not selling as expected? These usually come out towards the end of the run to flog the last ones still in the supply chain, is Honda trying to get rid of overstock?

Or the opposite, last quarter of the year push a special of a popular model to capture a few people sitting waiting for the new year - there's a lot of new models from other manufacturers out early next year who may be swayed elsewhere.

What they need to do for me is:

Civic xi

The xi is based on the Civic ES but includes the following additional features at no extra cost:

Metallic/Pearlescent paint
HDD SatNav
Rear parking sensors
Front and rear mats
Front and rear mudflaps

They haven't listened about the poor choice of petrol engines yet but that's o.k. some aftermarket alloys will smooth that over!

The engines may not be as economical as some on the market but they certainly arent poor!

That said, its fairly easy to remodel a worldwide engine range over night and it doesnt cost much so its a surprise they havent put in a 400bhp, 95mpg, 15 c/o2 lump in it for you.

But they are only tarting up 1000 cars, not a permanent 'improvement'.

Just a good way of clearing old stock.

Its I shame they remodeled the back end of these so much really. I really liked the exhaust tips on the 8th gen. I do like the look of the front end of the 9th just cant get on with back end. I see a few 9th gens around where I work and humm each to there own and all. But Waiting to see if the likes of team dyn or Mugen do anything.

That's strange, my sarcasm was met with sarcasm of a greater strength. I'd never normally expect that from you Dan

Thumbs up New Civic Ti

Hi Dan,
I've just bought the last of the old model Ti's on a 11 plate, And I must say how brilliant it is and it has £3700 worth of extras, This includes front and back spoilers, Side detailing on sills, Pioneer build in sat nav, bluetooth and parking sensors, The interior is stunning, It sports bespoke touring car 17" black alloys, All in all a absolutely stunning looking civic. Bit of a sheep in wolfs clothing thou as mine has a bob standard 1.4 lump and returns around 50MPG combines. Perfect

Honest John Real World MPG.

Find an engine with at least 140bhp that has real world mpg of 43mpg or better in a Civic sized car.

It is tough to do.

Wrong, these are are not old stock being tarted up.. these are coming of the production line now.

Despite what people think, there are not fields full of un-sold 9g's. Production is up at Swindon and unless you are lucky enough to buy from dealer stock or get a cancelled order, you will have to wait for your 9g to be built (time dependant on model).

A good way of clearing up old stock is se=lling it as its built, just like we've been doing.

Honda aren't Vauxhall/Gm hence the lack of finacial woes, we dont build umpteen cars to be left in fields and disused airbases around the uk, then have trouble selling them cos they are out of date, we build to seel and sell whats built.

I'd love to know just at what point you sat at your PC thinking you were right at any point of your post. Do you work for Auto Express perchance?

Either you have a lack of customers, or you are ignoring them, playing on your PC, to spend so much time on here!

According to SMMT, Honda sales are down 25% on last year.

As you should know, Honda have a capacity they run in their factory. They will know how many orders they have and if they are meeting their capacity target. If they see a shortfall of cause they are going to offer promotions, such as 'limited editions' and cheap finance etc.

I would have hoped an 'experienced' salesman would know that.

SMMT is for the UK motor industry and you are correct when you say Honda's sales are down this and for the past few years, but that is across the range and is the same for most manufactures. Honda have not released sales figures for the 2012 Civic yet, so maybe the TI is an attempt to boost sales in the UK.

BUT... Swindon produces cars for Europe and they must be selling somewhere as they have introduced a second shift and employing 500 more workers...

I hope Honda are doing well!

However, they are a business, not a charity!

If they are meeting their sales targets, great, but no company will give £xxxx in extras for nowt if they didn't have to. If everything is selling well you limit incentives to maximise profits whilst you can, only when sales begin to slide or don't meet expected levels, do you start offering bits and pieces to maintain, or improve sales.

The Ti is a marketing exercise to get more punters through the door, or maybe the extra kit should become standard anyway?!
