Talking Ep3- Noisy?

Hi everyone.

Ive just sold my loved seat leon cupra r and put a deposit down on a facelift type r.. Lovely car, But it seams to have a lot of road noise?? has anyone else noticed this? maybe its because the leon was so quiet and im not used to it.

thanks

Joe

Hi and welcome Joe,

This forum is for the 8th generation Civic, 2006 and later.
Not the older EP3.

But, you may find someone here who has had an EP3 earlier.

I had an EP3 Type R, before I changed it for the new FN2 Type R.

And yes, you do get a fair bit of road noise in an EP3 Type R. I didn't realise how much until I changed it for the FN2 - so much queiter!

Just turn the music up!

I also had a facelift EP3 type-r before my FN2 type-r. I had a supersprint cat back exhaust on my EP3. so it was quite noisy but I loved the sound and can't wait to get a new exhaust for my FN2! when comparing a standard FN2 with a standard EP3 I think the EP3 is noisier in every other way but the sound of the engine. that thing is much better with the standard FN2 (but it still isn't noisy enough! ).

I find the new Civic type R to be noiser than my Old Focus St and Leon Cupra R. I guess the weight saving has to be made somewhere !

I had an Audi A3 before, the FN2 is quite noisy compared to that. I read somewhere that Jap cars seem to lack in sound deadening in the boot floor and rear wheel archs (hence the extra road noise). Someone was putting extra material in those places to see if it made a difference, i lost the link and could find it again to see if it made any difference!

That's one of the drawbacks of today's modern cars, so much stuff goes in in terms of security equipment and electronics that the designer has to cut weight (and cost) with suond insulation. More of it will make the car quieter, no doubt, however you have to be careful what you put where, otherwise the risk of fire, or corrosion, is not negligible

My '54' plate EP3 was very noisy. Engine note was great but road and wind noise got really annnoying on long journeys (especially on motorways). Had to play music very loud!

The Bridgestone Pot'z are a harder tyre... for an quieter ride with better handling in warm conditions on the EP3 try Toyo Proxies... Alot softer rubber though so don't expect them to last as long as the Potz

Switched the Bridgestones for the Goodyear F1 GDS3 and WOW.

So much quieter AND grippier in the cold / wet.

Plus they look cool!
