Help buying 2nd hand Civic
Hey guys,
Im interested in buying a 1998 Civic CXi 3 door hatch. It has 191,000km on but looks to be in excellent condition interior/body wise. Ive already had a read through the faults section of this site but are there any tips anyone can give me or common problems engine-wise to look out for whilst test driving? Any advice would be much appreciated as ive had little experience with hondas in the past. cheers |

frankie - please be aware that 99% of the faults mentioned on this site refer to the new shape Civic, not the '98 CXi
But there may well be an owner on here who had one of them in the past, so I've moved your thread to where they might see it |

Seems to be problems with soem earlier turbo's on the diesels and occasional probs with gearbox servo's, but a car guide like Glasses or Parkers (I think glasses do a downloadable guide for 3 quid which was invaluable when I bought my BM'), it listed faults, problems repairs and cost, as well as fixes the cars should have had and then it did equipment (standard/optional) and original prices. So worth a try there I think for the full SP.

I don't know for Australia but here in Germany, even if the car is still technically OK after 10 years, it is hardly reasonable to buy one because the taxation is way too high - they tend to force people to buy a new car every few years, allegedly to make motoring more ecological (and make big cash at the same time). I would make a calculation what would the car really cost me in a year, in most cases it isn't that cheap any more then...
