Car Jerking

I have a 52 Reg Civic 1.4i Vision 5 door

When I'm setting off the car will jerk a little, it does this sometimes in second gear too. Also when driving in slow moving traffic in first gear there is a lot of jerking as I let go of the clutch.

Maybe I'm not driving it properly, I used to drive a Clio and that was extremely easy to drive. I'm finding the Civic a little difficult, as this clutch is a lot softer and difficult to get the right balance between clutch and accelerator (if you get what I mean).

Any advice would be appreciated.

Also I noticed the gear shiting isn't as it should be. Basically if I'm changing from 1st to 2nd or from 2nd to 3rd I sometimes hear like a pulling sound as I continue to accelerate. I bought the car 2 weeks ago and it has full service history, its been serviced and MOTd recently. The car was fine when I bought it so I suspect it's my careless driving which has caused these issues.
